Hi Ladies,

I am working on a research project to determine why and who offers the NIPT test for pregnant women here in Dubai and AbuDhabi. Many of the physicians I spoke to are still not convinced this is a good test and opting for more invasive Amnio.
Would love to hear about your experience.
Why they thought your were a good candidate and how much you were charged for this test if you got one. Would also like to understand how the results were handled and how you felt about that.

Thanks.

Ever since I started this pregnancy, I have been so scared due to my age (40). I read a lot on the net and decided to go for down syndrome screening. I was so nervous that I had to search for a clinic who can enlighten me and give me full info so I may decide correctly. I learned about the Feto Maternal and Genetics Center in Dubai Healthcare City and booked for a consultation. I was given an appointment with their Genetic Counselor Kathleen. She was so helpful explaining to me as well as answering all my queries. Since I was on my 10th week of pregnancy that time, I opted for NIPT. I could not wait anymore for the double marker test and nuchal scan which can be done from 11th week. Their test is called neoBona, I paid 3000AED all in - including the lengthy talk with Kathleen:biggrin: The result came after 8 days (I was told results will be ready in 10 days!). I was so relieved to receive the excellent news via phone call from Kathleen herself that everything is alright! At least, I did not have to go for an amnio which is having a risk for miscarriage...I am lucky to get pregnant at 40 with my first and for sure my only baby, I won't be happy to go invasive. I am now due for my anatomy scan.. Hai Mcrivas can this neobona check the gender of the baby also? thanks Angel:) Hi Angel, yes it can. I remember the nurse asking me but I did not opt for it, we love surprises!

Any gynecology clinic in Dubai offers this test and the price is aprox 3000 AED plus their mark-up. Although it is recommended for certain situations, anyone can have it. It is mostly not covered by insurance. The main companies that offer Nipt are Panorama, Harmony and Maternity21. I think the mothers choose to have this test just for the peace of mind as they say it is 99%accurate for certain chromosome disorders and is not invasive for the baby. Keep in mind it is still a screening test not a diagnosis. I did it for the peace of mind and because I had 2 previous miscarriages due to chromosome problems. I got the results fast in 10 days. If the results would've shown something abnormal I would've probably gone for the amnio.
