Hi ladies,

Im about to start with the p&s method to get ds to self settle. We've been rocking him for too long now. I've seen 2 old threads where ashc and another poster had fab results. I just have a couple of questions so as to clarify exactly what im about to do.

I ebf my ds, so i will finish a feed, make sure he is calm & swaddled and put him down. Do i walk away and wait for him to complain before i pat and shh or do i immediately start with the p&s? When am i allowed to pick him up, im unclear about that? In the baby whisperer book tracey hogg says she picked up a baby 126 times in an evening. What is the limit?

What do i do if and when ds gets so aggitated that he screams and no amount of patting and shhhing helps? Do i rock him?

I just want to be sure before i start this.

Tia

don't confuse the pat-shussh with the pick-up-put down. I think the 126 pick ups refers to the pick-up-put down technique which is for older babies. With the pat-shussh you stay with the baby patting and shhhing until they fall asleep, if they get agitated then you would pick them up and cuddle until they calmed again, then try again. You have to shhh really loud or you can use a white noise recording which you can leave on for the duration of the nap if you wish. This is not meant to be a crying-based form of training.
