hi. i'm having a baby in a few weeks and i wanted to know if the pills that they give you to dry up your milk are available here in dubai, and whether you can get given them at the hospital just after birth?

i don't need to be bashed about not b/feeding, i have my reasons, i found it a terrible experience for both me and my previous baby, and after many tears & me freaking out, decided to bottle feed and never looked back. so 2nd baby due soon, but as this is my 1st baby in dubai, i wondered if these pills were available here?

I went in the Uk for a pill to help dry the milk up when i stopped BF my son. The doctor advised they only gave such pill in very extream cases as it can have some harsh side affects. If you are not BF at all maybe you wont produce much milk and the supply will go fast! All the best with the research and i hope you get the help you require.

Trbdxb, don't listen to any nonsense, I did not bf any of my three children, on the second and third whom I had here in Dubai, my obgyn gave me a tablet after the birth I think it was called "dustinox' the spelling is most likely incorrect, I just took one and I never experienced any pain or engorgement, and believe it or not I'm still here to tell the tale... Oh and no side effects whatsoever,None! <em>edited by lilythepink on 06/10/2011</em>

I think there is a hormonal injection (well researched/safe), which is available in Europe. Not sure about the name and if it is available here.

You can actually take any over the counter birth control for a month or so and the milk will stop in its own. But you are of course aware that by not breast feeding - even for a little while - you are significantly raising your risk of breast cancer - which my cousin found out to her peril.

Hello, no bashing from me! I got a packet of pills from the Dr (will have to go and check the name) for this reason. (in Dubai) I havent taken any of them yet as i was just going to let my body "get back to normal" naturally..... My baby is over 6 months old now and although i havent breast fed her my breasts are STILL producing milk!!! (perhaps i should seek some professional opinion on this but havent had the time as yet)

I think if you do a little research you'll find that any Dr would be rather crazy to prescribe this drug as there are VERY severe and serious side-effects. If you don't stimulate your breasts (i,e don't let baby latch and suck) and start with the bottle straight away, you'll find that although your milk may come in to some extent that expressing by hand to comfort very rarely and slowly reducing down to nothing will cause your milk to dry up relatively quickly (i.e. within a week or two). All the best. The same opinion here....
