Progesterone?

Have been TTC for two months. Last month my ob/gyn noticed I had a cyst, and told me to get it checked again in one month. Went back last night, and it's still there so she says if I don't get pregnant on this cycle, that I need to go on progesterone for three months which should get rid of the cyst. I've ovulated both months, but it seems that last month's egg didn't rupture and became a cyst instead...

Has anyone here taken progesterone? The doctor reassures me that it's quite normal, but I'm a bit upset as am late 20s, healthy and never really thought I'd have any fertility problems! Ignorance is bliss I suppose! I know it's still early days, but I'd like to get this treated asap but am a bit nervous about taking medicine if I don't truly need it. The doctor also says Progesterone makes you put on weight and feel nauseous. Lovely...

Would appreciate any advice you have! Thanks

Get a second opinion. Cysts on the ovaries is very very common (polycystic ovarian syndrome). I have this, and there is always at least one cyst. Theoretically it can impact fertility - but this is in severe cases of multiple cysts blocking eggs from leave the ovaries etc. Majority of woman with cysts never even realize it - and find out accidently during an examination for something else (thats what happened for me). 2 months is not long enough to indicate any problems with conception. If the cysts is only on one side - you can still release egg on the other side. Even on the cyst side - this will not mean another egg cannot be released from that ovary while the cyst is there. I had a cyst in one ovary and got pregnant when I wasn't even trying to - and turns out TWO eggs had been released/fertilized. I would suggest continue trying for at least 6 months minimum before thinking of taking any form of medication whatsoever. 2 months is not long enough to indicate a problem or start taking meds.

Hi Ladies, Sorry about that quote, just getting to know the forum. CP80 where did you have your IUI. I have recently had my first IUI at the the gynaecological and fertility clinic healthcare city, the goverment clinic. It failed which I'm devastated about, but we want to try again, not sure if we should try somewhere else. I know of a one in Sharjah but that is too far away for me to get to. I had mine in Conceive clinic Sharjah

I have been taking progesterone for the past 3 months and have never noticed any side effects. I tend to try to take these things just before going to bed (to avoid nausea) and / or just after eating rather than on an empty stomach. Think it helps.... Google it anyway - you'll find lots of info on there!

Hi, why don't you get a second opinion? if you are not comfortable taking progestrone and you are not sure how necessary it is to be on it... that's what I would do... i have taken progestrone while I was pregnant (ivf) first 2 weeks only, and didn't notice any side effects... or at least nothing as bad as other drugs I took to get pregnant :-)
