Hello Ladies Much to my annoyance, I have recently discovered that my health insurance policy does not cover maternity and so to avoid any potentially high costs associated with any complications, I have decided I will deliver at Al Wasl Hospital. Plus, I have read great feedback on this forum about the services there. I have just called the hospital and they told me I needed to see a ob/gyn which they recognise and have given me the name of a clinic I need to go to and that clinic will register me at the hospital. However, I am already seeing a ob/gyn who I am really happy with. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, how did you go about it? Did you keep your orginal doctor or move to the Al Wasl approved clinic? They have given me the name of Al Badaa (?) clinic. thank you! If you plan to deliver at Al Wasl, then you will have to pay for the pre-natal package anyway. It can't hurt to be going to both sets of appointments anyway. I agree with Frannie's comments and would like to add: - request local food at the hosptial (so much better than the vegetarian and meditteranean options) - make your DH insist that you get a private room (if you search my posts back about 12 months, there is quite a lot of info on this) - Request Dr Josepheine as your Ob at Al Wasl. She is brilliant.

Hi M I recently delivered at AW having had my (early) ante natal at Al Badaa clinic. I saw a Dr Amna at the clinic and she was an absolute poppet (her nurse is a bit grumpy tho!). At about 30ish weeks they transfer your appointments to the hospital where you will just see whichever doctor they book you with. I didn't mind not having the same doctor each time, but some would. The standard of medical care that my son and I received at AW was very high and the midwives were lovely. Their NICU is the best in Dubai - hands down. The only real downsides were: A) doctors didn't have great bedside manner and I don't think the midwives are confident enough to interfere as they might be in a UK hospital B) not getting a private room as the place was so busy. This was fine for nights two and three but night one there was a woman next to me with TWINS and a snore like a freight train! Not great after 28 hours in labour. C) food is appalling but I just ate out of Starbucks on the ground floor A friend of mine had a baby at International Modern Hospital in Bur Duabi recently and had a great experience. Prices are higher than AW but not much. I'll probably go there for my second just to be guaranteed a room! Happy to answer any more questions you have.

I remember someone here being in a similar position as you. She wanted to continue seeing her current OBGYN so she paid the 5,000 AED for the prenatal package at her local PHCC and went to both appointments (when she could). I think that you have to attend at least some of the appts at the PHCC in order for you to have medical records to transfer to Al Wasl for the delivery. I also don't think you are allowed to schedule/register a delivery at Al Wasl w/out paying for the entire prenatal package via a PHCC any longer (I think you were allowed at one time, but it recently changed???).

You have to register at your nearest Primary Health Care Center, where also a lot of your antenatal appointments will take place. Here's a link with more info http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=100450 Antenatal package is 5,000 dhs at the moment. If you search on here under 'Al Wasl', you'll find lots of info.
