Ladies ,

When you take your LO's to the pediatrician for vaccinations or routine check up in Dubai.
What do the doctor's check for ?

I went for my DD's vaccine last week and the doc just weighed her and told me to start solids for her and thats about it.
I had so many ques to ask her, but never got the oppurtunity to do so. I paid 200 for consultation and another 600 for her vaccines and wasnt even satisfied with the doc.

She didnt even measure my DD's length ( I wanted to note down in her scrap book )

- When you go to the doc do they follow a set routine to access the baby's development etc ?
how does it work ?

Pls. share

thnx

I used to go see Deborah at Cooper Clinic for well baby checks. She's a post natal midwife and great for general parenting advice as well as the measurements and takes a bit more time than a paed might, particularly for the non medical stuff that docs tend to skip over a bit (solids, bf-ing etc.). She's a bit less expensive than a paed visit as well, if I remember correctly about 120 dhs. That being said, I also love my paed, Dr. Khan at Cooper, he's usually quite happy to chat about anything as well (as anyone who has ever sat in the waiting room waiting to see him can confirm :-)

When we used to go with DS to Iranian hospital for check ups or vaccination, they would always take weight, height when he was under 1.5 y.o. and put it in his record book. You should have just asked any questions you had. Just don't be shy as not all docs here are the talkative type :)

Our GP runs a baby clinic once a week where the nurse will do weights, heights etc and talk over any small issues, I guess like Health Visitor would do in the UK? However the clinic is for under 1's only so wasn't sure what age your LO was? Not sure of the price as DD was 14mths when we arrived in Dubai so we didn't ever get to use this service but read up on it when I was in the waiting room one day! That is with Dubai London Clinic - Festival City is our branch but sure other branches do it too?

I think it depends on how old the child is, but for my under 1 the doctor checks the three main measurements - weight, length and head circumference. I usually have to prompt him to share where that puts him on the WHO chart, but he willingly shares that when I remind him! He will also check the fontinelle and his chest, heart, glands, eyes, ears and throat. If there's anything of concern at the time he will check that as well. He's quite thorough. But for vaccinations, at least the early ones where you are going every month, I normally don't even go in to see the Dr, I just schedule in with the nurse and she does it. She will do the standard weight, but I always ask to do the length as well so I can plot it. Other than that it's just jab and go. HTH.
