Septate Uterus

I have been diagnosed with a septate uterus. My gynecologist did not seem to be too worried about this. She did mention that it can sometime cause a miscarriage.

My husband and I are trying for a baby (since November 2012). I am now worried that this will cause problems? I did google the condition and some sites says chances of miscarriage goes as high as 80%... Also it seems to make it difficult to conceive.

I have read that I can get an operation. My doctor did not suggest this though.

Has anybody else had this condition and what was your experience? Did you have an operation? If not, how was your pregnancy? I have also read that women with a septate uterus often do not reach full term.

Thanks ladies. When my doctor told me that I had a septate uterus she did not seem too concerned, maybe it is very small. I will investigate some more to see what I should do and take it from there.

Hi Geneve, I had a septate uterus and my dr decided to remove it as it was quite large. I then went on to carry twins, they did come early but this was due to placenta previa not anything to do with the surgery that I had. My dr did say though that I would have to have a c section as I had surgery but this was going to happen anyway as it was twins. If your dr thinks its fine then I would trust her, or if you still have concerns then get a second opinion. Many women deliver full term naturally with a septate and many only find out they have it until after they have carried and delivered healthy babies. It is a lot more common than people think. Don't worry, it will not stop you from carrying and delivering a baby, they have so many things now a days to help with this. Mb x

I know someone close to me who was diagnosed with a septated uterus. She was devastated. However, a few months later, there was no sign of a septated uterus and she is set to deliver her baby in October. I am not saying that the same thing will happen to you but that is my experience with this condition.
