DD refuses to wear shoes or slippers which makes it difficult to let her out for walks. She is almost 16 months old and has a massive tantrum whenever we try to put shoes on. Seems trivial but does anyone have any tips on how we can overcome this? We've been trying all sorts of things for the past few weeks !

I remember that stage! hahaha. At 16 months, she can fully understand what you say. I simply told DD, if you're not wearing shoes, you are not leaving the house. Mummy and Daddy are going out now. Bye! That worked. :D

When ds refused to go out wearing shoes, i let him take few steps with barefeet and it did the trick. It was hot (not too hot) you can choose a shadowy place and let her walk. Then he saw some ants and quickly agreed to put on shoes! Now, When they are older I do what shelly does, it works! No more tantrums! Same goes for clothes, they (6&4yo) chooses what to dress. It saved so much stress for me.

Maybe try letting her choose a new pair of shoes from the store? My DD was/is kind of similar in that there are just certain shoes she refuses to wear, and other shoes she'll happily wear... bearing in mind there is hardly any difference between the ones she likes and dislikes. So for the past few months whenever I buy her a pair of shoes I choose 3 pairs that I know I would be happy to buy, I show her each pair and she literally chooses. Its actually quite funny because the shoes she chooses she absolutely has no problem with wearing them. The shoes she doesn't choose, she won't even let me try them on her in the shop. She's just so particular. The great thing now is that the last few pairs of shoes I've bought her she's getting heaps of wear out of them - no more wasting my $$ on shoes that are never worn. I can't tell you how many pairs of shoes I've bought her that still have the price tag on as she's totally refused to try them on before I started giving her the choice.
