When DD #1 arrived we opted to store her cord blood and tissue with SmartCells. The service was good and we felt reasonably confident about the company.

I'm now nearly 38 weeks pregnant and I'm starting to have second thoughts about using the same service provider. As per my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong), DD#1's cells could, in theory, help DD#2 and vice versa. However, if we opt to use the same service provider again and, god forbid, they go bankrupt (as one firm did recently) or the storage facility had a technical problem we wouldn't have any options left to us.

I'm thinking that two different service providers might give us a higher probability chance of having options available for our girls if we ever needed them.

What did you do? Who do you recommend as an alternative to Smart Cells?

TIA

Interesting Plumie, I hadn't considered that perhaps we didn't even need to go through the process again. I suppose a second collection would be good in the event that the first was used by one family member and we needed another. Or as a second 'insurance policy' as such but then this would only really be a good option if we opted for a different company/facility.

As far as I know you don't need to do CBB with the second child if you did it th the first! We used cells4life with DD1, and her CB is good for the whole family! We checked this with cells4life and therefore opted out of doing CBB with DD2! HTH
