Dear all...

Baby is due to arrive in June...but i guess i should start shopping now as people are advising that it will get difficult when i get bigger......

Being a first timer...can someone please help in advising what to buy and what not to.....especially what was the absolute life saver product for you and what the total waste of money and space....

I dont want to go overboard and buy everything which catches my fancy.....

TIA!!!

I think you got it covered. If you're planning to breastfeed, don't forget lanolin cream, breastfeeding cover (if you prefer to use one), breastfeeding bra and pads. Newborn diapers, but don't buy a lot of the same brand because your baby's skin might not like it. My DS loved his swing but barely used his bouncer. Colorful playmat for tummy time. My DS hated swaddling so we used sleeping bags instead. Waterproof mattress cover. Waterproof mat for changing table. Sudocrem for redness or rashes.

LOL I never once used a sterilizer and I didnt use a sleeping bag until 5 months Its all about what you feel you may or may not want to do, if you are having the baby with you or in its own room, if you are BF or not..... I knw that is not very helpfl but if you decide those things and let us know, maybe we can be more helpful :-) if you plan on formula feeding then steriliser is helpful otherwise it is useful after 6 months once you start baby on solids. sleeping bags are everybody's preference. if i can find one for my big 21 month old then i would love to have one as he keeps on kicking the blanket whole night and used to love sleeping in gro bags. Angeljoy....i saw quite big sizes of sleeping bags in Just Kidding which is near Safa park on Shk Zayed road......dont know if they will fit a 21 month old....but i guess no harm in checking as they were quite huge.....

Thank you gaijind and dangerous blond......you guys are very kind to spend so much time in writing and advising me.... Well...yes...having visitors and that also in this number is less than ideal situation for me....but this is our first child after 14yrs of marriage....and a baby in the family after 10years.....so you can imagine everyone;s excitement.....plus the culture we come from.....people dont think much about privacy......and there is no way i can stop them...as they are all family.....i am kind of worried about that time as i would not only have to think about the baby and myself but guests also...yes, they do help alot...cooking, cleaning, grocery etc. but at the end of the day they are my responsibility. MIL who is visiting now and will come again in June has bought some clothes already so have to go through and see what sizes/types they are and then plan accordingly....in majorbuys i was thinking of: 1. Cot 2. rocking chair 3. changing table (as nursery wont have a bed so i think i would need it to lay and change the baby) 4. car seat 5. pram (DH is in love with Chicco's i-move...but i am not so keen on that, please advise) 6. Steriliser (the one that goes in microwave, r they good?) 7. breast pump (something which is small and portable as i would be working from 3 months onwards) 8. moses basket or some small cot type of thing, if baby needs to sleep in out room, as i dont have space for the full size cot in my room Smaller purchases: 1. Vests 2. body suits 3. cot sheets 4. baby blanket and light sheets 5. face towels (to wipe hat gooyee white thing) 6. thermos for hot water (formula) 7. Feeders (which one should i get?) 8. baby bag 9. formula container 10. baby toiletries (shampoo, lotions, oil, nappy cream, pampers, nail cutter, cotton wool, baby wipes....am i missing something? 11. baby socks 12. sweater / cardigan (DH keeps AC on high) 13. wrapping / swaddling sheets 14. baby carrying bag ( to move around the house or to hand over to people) 15. mattress protector for cot Apologies if the list looks a bit haphazard as i just wrote what came to mind......please add/share anything you think i might need and am forgetting......also if you would advise a particular brand/ feature to look for then it would be much appreciated...... Thank you for your help ladies!

For baby, I recommend bodysuits (newborn and/or 0-3 months) that have press buttons ( in front preferably) as newborns are fragile and new parents are nervous, in the beginning, with clothes that go thru the head. It's also good get a changing table. We still use ours ! ( 2years now), my best investment. Just get one crib that baby can use from day1 till old enough to move to a bed ( no need for the Moises basket or the small crib) For the stroller, there are many choices out there. We used inglezina ( umbrella style), one click and it opens. Very easy, doesn't take space. The car seat was till baby weighs 10kilos, so for more than a year we used the same car seat. We did not need to change when baby turned 6 months. For bathing baby we used a baby bath chair that has a net from toys r us.it was very practical as newborn was not easy to hold. So she lays comfortably on that chair that is slightly inclined which made the bathing for first timer parents, less stressful. Get towels, small face towels. It's good to have these ready. Usually people forget about them and focus on clothes. No need for shoes, may be socks are better for tiny feet. And hand mittens coz baby might scratch their face. U may also use the socks for the hands as well. Get shampoo/all body wash etc. diapers for newborns U will need a baby bag that u can carry with u anywhere u go with baby stuff A changing mat for when you go out ( to use on surfaces in changing rooms in malls, or if u go to the park, or if u visit someone etc) Two or three baby blankets. For you, Get pj that have easy opening from front if u plan to BF. it's more practical Get a breasfeeding cream 100%pure lanolin. It is very shooting. I found one with medela at mother care or baby shop. I regret not buying a rocking chair( or sofa). It would have been helpful during nursing or just holding baby and rocking. Get a nursing cover. This is what comes to my mind right now. If I recall so,etching else I will write again :) I hope it helps.

As for your questions...i will have a nursery and a nanny for the baby but maybe for the first initial months he will be with us or maybe he will sleep in his cot with nanny in the room...... I do plan to BF but then again maybe will support it with a formula also..... I would have house full of family at that time (say about 10 people)...so have to think about that also...... Anything else i am missing out on???
