Time to heal stitches after epsiotomy

I am wondering how much time does it take for stitches to dissolve completely after an epsiotomy. I had an epsiotomy during my delivery about 20 days ago. Though there is no pain, I can still feel the sticthes down there. They have not dissolved completely. Is it normal? Should I get it checked by a doctor?

If there is no pain you may just need them removed or to wait a bit. (I had a 1:1000 allergic reaction to mine. NO fun)

Thanks ladies....... That's a big relief. I think maybe the doctor said the pain will go away in 7-10 days and I thought the stitches would be dissolved by that time too. Like you said Geen-ish, we are so tired by that time that we hardly remember what was being said! I do have a follow up with my gynae after 6 weeks. Thanks all.

Though there is no pain, I can still feel the sticthes down there. They have not dissolved completely. Is it normal? Should I get it checked by a doctor? Have you booked a check-up with your OB, 6 weeks post delivery? If not, it's a really good idea so you can ask all of these questions and get a physical check while you're there. We're all exhausted in those early weeks, so it's a good idea to have a little notebook handy to write all of these questions down. Then you won't forget anything during the appointment. :D

I had some tearing during my delivery and my stitches took about 40 days to dissolve completely. I wasn't too sure if my dr said 14 days or 40 days - turns out it was the latter! 14 days came and went with them still there, not looking at all like the were dissolving. So then I knew it was actually 40 days! But agree with moonbean, have a look and see if you can see them. If your still not sure, then head back to the dr to get them checked. HTH

Hey I had one during delivery too and even though im now heading onto 5 months pp, sometimes it does feel like they are still there, but I know they have dissolved. I think it took about 3-4 weeks before they were gone. I know it sounds gross but have a look, it may be that they are gone, and what you are feeling is scar tissue?
