To breastfeed after a previous abscess?
Hi all,
I had a huge and painful abscess that had to be removed surgically when I was breastfeeding my daughter some years ago. Now, I'm expeting my second child this month & spoke to my doc to ask if it is a tendency of my body and how likely that I will develop an abscess again. She advised that it is very likely and if I don't want to take any risk, I shouldn't be breastfeeding at all!
I really don't want to go into that route again (4 times infections & antibiotechs in just four months, finishing this by the abscess and it's removal). Was too painful and caused me a lot of misery and stress until it totally healed after more than a month.
My question is : anyone with an experience of developing an abscess with first child and not during the second time aound? I just feel sorry for the baby to take formula right away, however very scared of the abscess thing happening again!
Any thoughts/personal experience is greatly appreciated!
TIA
