Dear all, we will be travelling to the UAE during Ramadan with our 2 months old baby. Which vaccinations does he have to get before entering the UAE? Polio would be scheduled at a later stage, but I believe it still exists in the UAE due to people from Pakistan and India entering? Which vaccinations should I get before I enter the country?

Which country do you live in? I would probably just follow the vaccination schedule in place in your home country rather than trying to do the UAE one just for travelling.

Thank you all! We are not living in the UAE anymore, so I would like to do the vaccines before I leave for the UAE. Do you know if I can find the UAE vaccination schedule anywhere online? Thanks.

I think you will find that India was recently 'UN declared polio free' which means they have gone 3 years with no cases reported. Just to add to this, there have been reports in the news recently that polio cases have been identified in Pakistan, Afganistan and I think Syria (don't recall all the countries) and that as a result the UAE authorities are recomending not just that children are vaccinated, which is mandatory, but that adults should also have booster shots. I checked with Healthbay Polyclinic and they confirmed that polio booster shots are recommended for adults. However, you have to be careful as you should not be vaccinated if pregnant and in case the vaccine available is the live virus you also should not be vaccinated if you are trying to get pregnant as you need to allow a minimum of 3 months from vaccination time to getting pregnat time.

As Big Blue has said - there is no compulsion for vaccination to bring a baby to Dubai. We will be bring our new baby home to Dubai as soon as we get a passport (under 2 weeks in Australia apparently). It won't have had any vaccinations at all...I won't be doing BCG and we will probably follow a hybrid Australian/British schedule. The UAE is UN declared 'polio free' but obviously most countries include polio on their standard schedules.

You will not be asked for a vaccination record upon entering Linalou so the answer is none. The ones that are required here at birth you can do once here, assuming you will be living in Dubai. I had them done for DD when she was 2months old and there were no issues. Polio is on the mandatory schedule and if I recall correctly is done at 6 months.
