OK so my baby is 6.5 months old and on hte advice of our Dr have been trying to wean her onto food for about a month now. She didnt seem interested from the start and I thought nothing of it as presumed she was just getting used to tastes etc.
Now 1 month on, she is STILL not very interested! She loves her high chair LOL but is more interested in looking around her than actually eating the food. As soon as she sees the spoon her lips clamp shut and she smiles up at me! :)
She takes a feed every 4 hours of no more than 150ml at a time and we try the solids 2 hours after a feed in the morning and in the early afternoon. I would have thought after 1 month that she would be eating a lot more. Sometimes she takes some but the amounts are very little and most of it ends on up her face or high chair!
I have tried ALL sorts of fruit and veg suitable for her age - some she prefers more than others but the last time we saw her Dr he said that she really need to start eating more for nutrients etc. Her weight is fine but am concerned from the nutrient perspective.
Any thoughts please? Am wondering is she hungry enough but have also tried waiting to 3 hours after her feed and it seems to make no difference?

I would have to agree with everything the other ladies have said. As your baby is FF you need not worry about iron just yet as the formula does include it. Some babies don't take to eating food as quickly as others, I know my nephew really wasn't interested in food until he was 8 months and is a good eater now at 4 years of age. The only thing I would suggest is offering your baby food an hour after she has her bottle, as she may actually be a little overtired which can make introducing food difficult. My son is 7 and a half months old and he has his breakfast and lunch an hour after he has a bottle and his dinner 2 hours after a bottle, then a bottle before bed. I think she will be too tired if you wait 3 hours and perhaps is a little tired when you are offering her food now? Just a thought, wouldn't hurt to try bringing it forward an hour :) Best of luck, it's a messy phase ;)

If she's FF then no need to stress much about iron; my understanding is that it is easier for FF babies to get their iron from milk vs BF ones since the formula has the recommended iron added. And if she's using stage 2 milk it has a higher iron content than stage 1 because babies do need more iron as they grow.

Thanks ladies, I havent been stressing up to now - I have been really ensuring that meal times are fun for her and we do have lots of fun together! I decided to go for purees initially as the thought of her choking terrifies me! I have done a paeds first aid course but still.....I tried with pieces of avocado yesterday and that was just squashed all over her tray lol and this morning with apple but she was biting off large chunks so that probably wasnt the best food to start with. Maybe I should read up on BLW and give it a go.... My baby is FF so a little concerned about iron etc... but like you say, she'll eat when she wants to eat!

meagle has great advice. food before one is for fun. your BM is enough for now. offer food at mealtimes and, like meagle says, if she eats great, if not, then dont fret. steam veggies and cut them into chip sized sticks - easy for baby to hold. put mashed potato in a bowl and let her feed herself. eating didnt click with my son until he was 10 months old, before that it was all messy-play. read up on baby lead weaning, it's great! and familiarize yourself with your baby's gag reflex. distinguish between gagging and choking. and make sure you know what to do in each instance. it's the best weaning method ever! good luck

Sounds like your daughter is a perfect candidate for babyled weaning. Make eating foods a pleasant experience. There is no need to force her. Give her soft table foods and put them on her tray while you eat your meals. If she wants them, great. If she doesn't, oh well! If you are nursing, there is no need to worry about a lack of nutrients. Each baby takes to solids on their own timeline. My daughter was probably 8 months before she wanted much food and even then she ate very little. It was probably 9-10 months before her appetite picked up. Your baby's milk consumption shouldn't decrease until around the 1 year mark in favor of solids anyway. Don't stress. Your baby will eat. She just will eat when she's ready for it.
