Thanks again! He's doing better now with both the rash and the formula - I'm actually combining the regular Actamil and the comfort one and so far so good - but it's also good to have those on brands on standby to try if need be! First time I've managed to sign in for days and now he's waking again! Bye for now...!
We used Aptamil after having problems with S26 although if I can go back in time, I would have tried out a few more brands in the early days as my baby was a poor feeder and never really took to formula until we gave him NAN 2 at 7 months! Now he finally loves milk.
Pav, if in doubt, I would do another trip to the doctor. It is possible for teething to start at 7 weeks but as far as I can tell, fairly rare to start so early. So better to check with your doctor if this continues. Changing formula brands can unsettle their tummies a bit for a couple of days (and permanently change the look of their poo) so it sounds to me like this could be the cause. If his stomach continues to be very loose I would take him back to the doctor. Re: the nappy rash: Baby wipes didn't agree with my baby at first, I used old fashioned wet washcloths for the first few months (bought about 20 and just rinsed the used ones and put them in the washing machine) except when out and about. Not very convenient, I know, but you could try that. I agree with wickedangel on the Pampers Premium, much kinder to baby's bottom than the cheapie Pampers.
Teething can start at anytime hun, some babies are born with teeth. Teething signs doesnt mean having teeth anytime soon. DS started teething between 3-4 months but he had his 1st teeth 1 week after his 1st birthday.
You can try sudocream or bepanthen (sp?) for the rash.
You can also mix Aptamil 1 with Aptamil comfort (50-50) or you can use gripe water or infacol for his colic & switch back to Aptamil 1 if it suited him more than the comfort formula. DS was on Aptamil AR since he was 6 weeks, & he started to have some explosive poos & redness in his bum at around 3 months, & it was simply teething signs. We used saducream to prevent nappy rash. No nappy time also helps.
Which nappies are you using? Pampers premium is purely cotton & it helps to ease the rash pain & inflamation. Hope your Lo gets better soon hun. xx
Hi Wickedangel - I forgot to mention he is seven weeks!! Sorry! Do you think it's fairly normal though - nothing to be overly concerned about at this point? Perhaps he just needs to get used to the formula or perhaps we just go back to Aptimal 1 normal because that seemed ok with regards his stomach. As for the rash I'm a bit scared to change his nappy now - am doing them up looser and trying to avoid the rash area but concerned that when he does a stool again it'll get all up his back and on the rash. I think the odd baby wipe may have done this and a bit of dampness after (my fault of course) so am trying to use only water to clean him. Do you think I should get some antiseptic cream to put on it? At the moment I'm soothing it with Mustela Stelutopia (something like that spelling!).
;o)
Hi - I've been mixing expressed milk with Aptamil for a couple of weeks now since I had a serious shortage at one point and it was stressing me out. It's been going quite well but the last couple of days we switched to Apt Comfort as our doctor thought the little chap might have a bit of colic. His stools are still yellow but are almost like paint and so he's soiled through his onesie two days in a row. I'm not worried about that so much as was wondering: is this considered diarrhea? I'm not overly worried at this stage since it's been once a day and does not smell bad. Sorry to give so much info - just looking for a bit of advice! Also he's got a rash around his back and I think it's where the nappy rubs at the back - has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you and good luck to the other newbies!
Sounds like signs of teething hun, the rash & explosive poos.
