I use the C4 own brand fragrance/enzyme free, very cheap compared to a lot of the other options. As SL says we use the same for all our washing (I have sensitive skin). I also use white vinegar in the fabric conditioner compartment as it helps remove any soap residue from the fabric (and also naturally deodorises and kills germs). I put all his clothes in the dryer to soften them (no fabric softener for us and I find air drying here leaves clothes a bit crunchy, especially in summer). I did find with my guy being a refluxer that every once in a while I did have to soak his light coloured clothes in Vanish/NappySan just to get the stains out, I then put them through another wash cycle with just white vinegar to remove the chemical again.

We use Soapnuts, also at Organics Cafe. I put them in and then pop a bit of baking soda and a few drops of essential oil into the machine to make the clothes nice and soft and smell wonderful. :) We use the same thing for all our clothes and washable nappies. I've often read that soaps leave a bit of residue to if you change it from wash to wash, for example using regular Tide in the adult clothes and then something more natural in the baby's clothes, then the Tide still ends up in with the baby's clothes anyway. So, from what I've read, it's best to use the same thing for all the washes.

You might want to try the ecoballs : no washing powder. http://www.ecozone.com/p_Ecoballs1000.html[/url'> Best for allergies, and very cheap if we consider the number of loads you can do with just the 3 balls. We have them since 2 years now - family of 5 + lots of animals (so extra washing required) and I just had to "recharge" them. I also love them, as no matter what I put - weither coton, silk, delicate - my laundry is not damaged and there is no color run neither... It doesn't have any smell though, so you might miss the fresh smell of clean laundry. You can also avoid to put softener (as you have a baby, might be great to do so). I think you can find them in Organic and food cafe. Multiples editing trying to put a proper hyperlink edited by Tiki on 20/12/2011
