With New Years’ eve just around the corner

Thousands of UAE residents will be celebrating the end of one year and the start of a new one in the country.

And while many of us witnessed 2018 fly on by – let’s not forget that this year was dedicated to the man behind the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as the ‘Year of Zayed.’

As we close the chapter to a wonderful year of positivity and goodwill in the country, we open a new chapter to the ‘Year of Tolerance’ for 2019.

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced on Saturday that the New Year will be regarded as a year dedicated to tolerance in the UAE.

Effective from the first day of 2019, the UAE will become a global capital for tolerance worldwide and will instil the much-needed co-existence values of peace and tolerance in the country, in the region and around the world.

The ‘Year of Tolerance,’ aims to do so through the legislative and policy-oriented goals of the UAE that will act as an inspiring hub for other countries to follow suit.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan is the man behind the virtues of tolerance and co-existence in the UAE, which only saw fit that the Year of Tolerance follows such an extraordinary year this year.

In the founding years of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed was the leader that the country needed and he helped establish and instil all positive virtues amongst all the people in the country.

Therefore, 2019 will be following in the legacy and teachings of the late Sheikh Zayed.

What is the ‘Year of Tolerance’?

If the name doesn’t already suggest that 2019 will be about tolerance and the accepting of those around us, this new year will follow five important pillars.

  • 1. It will deepen the virtues of tolerance and co-existence
  • Especially amongst the international communities in the country and the youth of the nation.

  • 2. It will mark the UAE as a global capital for tolerance
  • With a series of projects and initiatives, the UAE will become a hub for these virtues and will provide dialogues for cultures and civilizations and their role to co-exist around the world.

  • 3. It will build tolerant communities
  • Seemingly fit, as the UAE is a majority expat-based country, it will build and sustain tolerant communities through multiple cultural programmes.

  • 4. It will spread cultural and religious tolerance
  • Through various dialogues and conversations, the UAE aims to spread tolerance in all aspects of life through its legislative and policy-oriented objectives.

  • 5. It will promote tolerance through media
  • As an important platform for people around the world, the UAE will be promoting tolerance and co-existence of communities through media initiatives and platforms.
