The public sector will enjoy 3 days off while the private sector will enjoy 2 days off

Eid weekend is fast approaching but it seems a number of us will possibly not be enjoying a long weekend this Eid. The Ministry of Labour announced today via Twitter that the first and second day of Shawwal will be a paid holiday for the UAE’s private sector. Numerous astronomers have speculated that 1 Shawwal will fall on Friday, June 15th but this will however only be confirmed on Thursday evening.
If 1 Shawwal falls on Saturday, June 16th then private sector employees can look forward to a long weekend.
This announcement is in accordance of Article 74 of Federal Law No. 08 for the year 1980 regarding the regulation of labour relations, which states that the private sector will receive the first and second day of the month of Shawwal as a holiday.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority also announced that the Eid Al Fitr holiday for schools will begin on Thursday and last until Sunday. They also advised parents to watch the news for any notifications whether or not there will be school on Monday, June 18th.
The public sector’s Eid Al Fitr holiday falls on the first three days of Shawwal. According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources the public sector’s holiday will begin on Thursday, June 14th, (29 Ramadan). The Eid holiday will run until Sunday, June 17 if Eid Al Fitr falls on Friday, June 15.
