Public Holiday Announced for Prophet’s Birthday and National Day

Residents in the UAE can look forward to another long weekend before 2017 comes to an end. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation released a statement on Thursday, November 16th, 2017 announcing the public holidays for the public sector for Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH), Martyrdom Day and UAE National Day.

According to the statement, November 30th, 2017 till December 3rd, 2017 will be public a public holiday for the public sector with both days included.

Work will resume again on Monday, December 4, 2017.

This year will mark the UAE’s 46th National Day. You might have wrongfully assumed that the UAE’s National day is the celebration of the British declaration to withdraw from the area in 1968.

This is however not actually the case, there is no celebration for the British leaving the vicinity but rather a celebration of the unification of the emirates in the UAE. Nation Day marks the unification of six of the emirates in the UAE namely: Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Kuwain, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Ajman in 1971. Through the unification the UAE, a big and prosperous country was created. Ras Al Khaimah also became a part of the UAE the next year in 1972.
