Where to Go For a Night-Time Swim in Dubai

Until recently, Dubai's public beaches had restrictive swim timings due to safety concerns - which meant beach-goers who enjoy swimming past sunset weren't able to enjoy a cool, night-time swim.

However, for over a month now a popular stretch of sand in Dubai by the Burj Al Arab has been open for late night swimming and it's proven hugely popular. 

Now, anyone craving a late night dip can head to Umm Suqeim 1, which is just a kilometre away from the iconic 7* hotel, as it is open until 12am each night.

The change in timings was originally announced by Dubai Municipality, after the installation of two 'smart poles' that provide high-intensity lighting on the beach after sunset. There's also huge TV's with announcements and updates about the water conditions, and there's also great changing facilities.

Of course - in keeping with Dubai's continuous efforts to become a smart city - the 'smart' poles, 'smart' changing rooms as well as the 'smart' palms that provide free WiFi to beach-goers all aim to help make Dubai a great tourist destination. Even when it's boiling hot during summer days.

To ensure the safety of swimmers, night-time swimming is only allowed on a 125-metre stretch of the beach, and you can only go 30 metres into the sea. Plus, there's now lifeguards on duty until midnight - which is also the time when the smart poles turn off.
