Just because you’re not in the Kingdom, doesn’t mean the celebrations need to stop - there are plenty of activities in Dubai that you can attend to celebrate the 88th Saudi National Day.

The 88th National Day of Saudi Arabia is coming up and the Kingdom is gearing up for a weekend of fun, entertainment and recognition of the country’s rich history.

But for Saudi nationals living in Dubai, or people curious of the Saudi Arabian culture, can still join in on the celebrations miles away from home.

And in honour of this annual celebration, Dubai will hold celebrations for September 23 around the city with a grand variety of events, activities and decorations to reflect the strong relationship between the two countries.

Celebrations for the National Day will begin at the Dubai International Airport as visitors arriving from Saudi Arabia will be welcomed with traditional coffee, sweets and flowers – in efforts to promote the Arabic culture and overall hospitality of the country.

If you’re already in Dubai, here is what you can do to celebrate the Saudi National Day.

1. Music Concerts

For those interested in listening to the Gulf’s most famous singers are in for a treat – two singers will perform on stage in front of Dubai fans as part of the Saudi National Day celebrations in the city.

Dalia Mubarak, a Saudi singer and Shamma Hamdan, an Emirati singer will perform their biggest song hits on stage for all their fans.

Another traditional music filled event that will take place in the city where Saudi Arabian folk dancers will perform traditional dances and songs to the public. The band will also hand out Arabic coffee, vouchers, scarfs and souvenirs.

2. Dubai Fountain

The most touristic hot spot, the Dubai Fountain will also be themed around the special celebration – the fountain will move to special songs by famous Saudi artists and a tribute to the Saudi national anthem on the last day.

3. Parade

As a grand token to the celebratory day, a parade will take place at Dubai’s popular location, the beach.

People dressed traditionally while chanting Saudi national tunes will be marching alongside horses to complete the parade. The location will also be screening award-winning films by Saudi directions at Roxy cinemas.

4. Special light show

The Burj Khalifa has obviously made the list as the tallest building in the world lights up for the Saudi National day celebration with the help of the nearby Dubai Fountain.

The Saudi national flag will be displayed on the Burj Khalifa’s LED screens – showcasing a vibrant green colour and a special message to the Kingdom.

5. Fireworks

If you find yourself heading towards Abu Dhabi this weekend, you’ll be in luck to catch a special array of fireworks in Yas Island’s skies for the Saudi Arabian celebration and it’s free to watch.

  • When? September 23 from 8pm onwards

And if you’re in the bustling city of Dubai, you can head down to La Mer to see the colourful fireworks displayed with traditional Saudi dancing and a special parade of supercars in the area.

6. Traditional performances

To truly understand the celebration, you must be intrigued to learn more about the traditional Emirati and Saudi Arabian culture and traditions.

Boxpark is throwing a cultural event filled with music and traditional Emirati stick dance performances to begin the Saudi National Day.

For those who live around Festival City and don’t want to head to central Dubai, then a special show will be headlining at the Dubai Festival City – a traditional band will roam around the mall and play Saudi Arabian melodies.
