Safa Park Running Track

Get into that Safa Park rubber!!

I normally run along the path next to the beach at Umm Sequiem. I’ve tried running on the beach and that didn’t really work, it was alternately too soft, or kind of wet and too much of an angle – so quickly went back to the path. For me there is a lovely feeling of space and openness running next to the ocean… even a flat one like the Gulf!

As I’m getting on in years and I don’t do a huge amount of running my knees aren’t too pleased with this running thing that I put them through three times a week but they put up with it as I love my running and as I said I love the beach view.

All was going well till I decided I’d be adventurous and try to train up for a 10 km run.

Each time I approached 7 km, which for me is about an hour, everything started to go pear shaped, with my knees starting to moan and groan, with the extended effort. I knew that if I pushed things I would injure myself and that would be the end of that for six weeks.

I repeated the above story to a friend of mine who lives up near Safa Park and they suggested I try running round the rubberized track.

Boy is that fantastic or what !!

I couldn’t believe the difference it made to my knees and the general feeling in my legs at the end of it. The track seems to be about 3.5 km long and I can go round it twice without my knees giving me grief. The view is not so great as the beach but the rubber is worth it.

I used to drive past the park and wonder why on earth people walked and jogged round and round the park when there are so many other places with better views or just more interesting routes… and now get me I’ve joined the converts.

Just goes to show how many people in Dubai have dodgy knees if they are all like me, and run around the park for the rubbery track.

I now drop the kids and do my two and a bit laps round the park – I’m building up to the magic three and a bit 10 km total slowly.

I still have my short run at the beach for the sea air and the view – but I am a real Safa Park convert.
