Mattress Stain Cleaning and Deodorizing

Here’s a little trivia for you: Did you know that the average person sweats out 0.5 liters of sweat each and every night?

Seeing as how we spend a third of our life horizontally on our beds, one would assume that a mattress would be on our priority list of what needs to be cleaned. In reality of course, that’s just not true.

Mattresses are not only the gatekeepers to happy dreams but they are also harbors of dead skin, dust, sweat and dust mites.  You might argue that you wash your bed sheets often, but in reality you are letting a thin sheet of cloth separate you from an onslaught of germs.

So, how do you clean your mattress in an easy and simple way?

1. Vacuum the mattress

After removing all the bedsheets and pillows, get out your vacuum. Vacuuming the mattress is an important first step, as it get rids of settled dust, debris and dust mites.

Note: Remember to use a clean vacuum in order not to transfer all the nasties to your mattress.

2. Baking Soda Deodorizing

Did your mattress develop its own unique scent? Worry not, simple powder down your mattress with a thin even layer of baking soda and let it sit for 15-30min. After that, get out your clean vacuum and clean up the remaining baking soda. Your mattress will smell brand new.

3. Combat your mattress stains

If your mattress has any old stains, then you will need to mix a special stain removing formula consisting of: 2 parts of hydrogen peroxide to 1 part dish-soap. Put a small amount of the solution on the stain, gently brush it with a toothbrush and let it set for 10 minutes. After 10min have past, dab it away with a cold wet towel.

4. Deep cleaning over steam cleaning

Steam cleaning kills what’s left over from the dust mites, however it in turn injects your mattress with moisture. Deep cleaning is great if you have dust allergies or tough to get out stains. If you need a deep clean of your mattress you will need to get a professional company instead of hacking it on your own. This way you save cost of buying the machine and get a professional job done well.

7. Bed bug treatment

If you have bedbugs then you will need to get professional help, but there are initial steps you can take in order to avoid infestation.
