Job Scope
To deliver engaging lessons that develop versatile, confident performers, while contributing to a high-quality, integrated whole-school Performing Arts programme.
Safeguarding Statement
Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. All staff working at JESS will have some contact with children and young people and will therefore be in a position of trust. Staff with teaching duties will be responsible for the students that they teach and may also have additional specific pastoral or other responsibilities for other students they do not teach. In addition, all staff will regularly interact with students who may seek assistance or otherwise interact with them whilst moving around the school. In all cases, the staff’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the students is to adhere to and always ensure compliance with the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policy and procedures to include whistleblowing ensuring all concerns are immediately passed on to the school’s Designated Safeguarding Officer(s) (DSO).
Main Tasks and Duties
This is not an exhaustive list of duties/responsibilities. Please note that this is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the role. It is not a comprehensive list of all tasks that the Performing Arts Peripatetic will carry out. The postholder may be required to do other duties appropriate to the level of the role, as directed by the Head of Performing Arts. The responsibilities outlined may be modified by the Head of Performing Arts, upon mutual agreement, to reflect or anticipate changes in the role.
Teaching and Learning:
- Deliver high-quality Primary LAMDA lessons, workshops, and coaching sessions across year groups as required.
- Prepare students for LAMDA examinations, ensuring they are confident, well-rehearsed, and fully supported.
- Identify and nurture talent, developing students’ communication, performance, and public speaking skills.
- Plan and deliver engaging Performing Arts lessons that support progression and student development.
- Deliver high-quality private Performing Arts lessons, tailoring instruction to individual student needs and outcomes.
- Lead small group Performing Arts sessions, developing technical ability, confidence, and performance skills.
- Deliver regular dance classes, including weekend provision, contributing to the wider Performing Arts programme.
Examination Coordination:
- Manage all aspects of LAMDA exam logistics, including entries, timetabling, examiner liaison, and administration. - with support from Head of PA and Head of Drama ARS.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and timely communication with families and staff.
- Analyse examination outcomes and use data to inform future planning and improvement. With support from Head of PA and Head of Drama ARS.
LAMDA:
- Ensure high-quality, consistent delivery at primary.
- Provide targeted professional development to support effective exam preparation and student outcomes.
- Promote and model the JESS values, vision, and mission in all aspects of LAMDA provision.
Private, small groups and large groups sessions:
- Deliver high-quality lessons that empower every student to grow in confidence, refine their skills, strive for excellence, and express themselves creatively through dance, drama, and performance.
- Build strong relationships with parents through regular communication and detailed student reports, ensuring all learners are effectively stretched, challenged, and supported to achieve their full potential.
- Communicate regularly with the Performing Arts team to support talent identification, student progression, and opportunities for enrichment and performance.
Student Engagement:
- Oversee LAMDA lessons, Performing Arts, and enrichment opportunities across Primary and Secondary.
- Guide students through exam preparation, performance practice, and progression to higher grades.
Student Support in LAMDA Practical Lessons, Examinations and Events:
- Liaise closely with Performing Arts staff and peripatetic teachers to ensure all practical, technical, and logistical requirements are met to support students during LAMDA lessons, rehearsals, examinations, mock exams, showcases, and performance events.
- Support students’ preparation for LAMDA examinations by ensuring performance conditions reflect exam expectations, including appropriate use of space, basic AV or sound where permitted, and clear understanding of performance protocols.
- Ensure students are confident and well prepared with the practical requirements of LAMDA assessments, including entrance and exit conventions, use of props, setting up performance space, and responding appropriately to examiner cues.
- Promote professional performance standards and good backstage practice in line with LAMDA examination regulations, reinforcing health and safety procedures in all rehearsal, examination, and performance spaces.
- Support the smooth running of LAMDA exam days and events by assisting with room setup, scheduling, candidate flow, and maintaining a calm, supportive environment for candidates.

- To effectively contribute and provide best practice in combatting risk pertaining to cyber safety, health safety and child protection.
- To communicate to the student that they must take a responsible attitude to the resources and equipment with which they have been provided.

- To have professional regard for the ethos, policies and procedures of JESS and maintain high standards in attendance and punctuality.

- To maintain high standards of conduct both in and out of the classroom or events.

Person Specification
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of LAMDA syllabus, examination structure, and assessment criteria.
- Proven experience preparing students for successful LAMDA examinations.
- Confidence leading rehearsals, mock exams, staff and performances.
- Excellent organisation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to support exams and events, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work across both JESS sites.
- Commitment to safeguarding, professional integrity, and the JESS values.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the wider school community.
Desirable:
- Experience leading or coordinating a LAMDA or Performing Arts programme.
- Professional performance or arts education background.
- Experience delivering enrichment, Musicals, ECAs, showcases, or staff training.
- Driving license.
