UAE announces reduced Ramadan working hours for public and private sector

The shorter working hours for Ramadan 2023 will apply to both non-Muslims and Muslims.

With the Holy Month of Ramadan 2023 just around the corner, public and private sector employees in the UAE must get ready for shorter working hours.

This year, Ramadan in the UAE is expected to start on Thursday March 23 and might end on April 21, though the exact dates will be announced later as it is dependent on moon sightings.

Following Ramadan, the country will be celebrating Eid Al Fitr with a four-day weekend.

UAE public sector working hours during Ramadan 2023

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) released a circular confirming that government workers can anticipate shorter working hours during the holy month.

During Ramadan, public sector workers will work from 9 AM to 2:30 PM (Monday to Thursday) and from 9 AM to 12 PM on Fridays.

Private sector employees across the UAE can also anticipate reduced working hours during Ramadan 2023, confirmed the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

"In accordance with the requirements and nature of their work, companies may apply flexible or remote work patterns within the limits of the daily working hours during the days of Ramadan," stated the circular.

Regardless of whether an employee is Muslim or not, work timings will be reduced by two hours for all employees.
