UAE residents, mark your calendars for the month of December
The Al Hijri break on Saturday, August 31 is over, and it's back to work and back to school. For those who are looking forward to the next public holiday, you'll be glad to know that two are set to fall in December.
Here are the upcoming UAE public holidays to note in your planner:
December 1, 2019 – Commemoration Day
On Sunday, December 1, the UAE will be celebrating Commemoration Day (Martyr's Day) to honour the Emiratis who died for their country. The annual public holiday was declared by His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE in 2015.
December 2 and 3 – UAE National Day
The UAE will celebrate a double public holiday for the 48th National Day celebrations. As the break comes on Monday and Tuesday after Martyr's Day, UAE residents can expect a long, 5-day weekend at the start of December.
The UAE was known as the Trucial States until the protectorate treaty with the British Empire was withdrawn on December 1, 1971. Doing so led towards the federal unification of the Trucial States, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah making up the original UAE. Ras al Khaimah joined later in 1972, forming the present-day UAE emirates.
With a long break ahead during the winter month, it's the perfect time to plan that trip.
