I wouldn't dismiss problems anywhere. Especially not in coutries where the locals are outrageously outranked by foreigners and where the loss of identity and the impact of the recession IS creating tension . . . This doesn't apply to Bahrain though, the locals are in the majority - petrol stations and Starbucks are served by Bahrainis......in Bahrain is the Shia majority /Sunni minority/ Sunni rule issue that is causing the problems.

also disagree Izzy, this is the worst they have seen. I have seen the pics and plenty that have now been blocked. This is not one of their little flare ups. If you use twitter then follow ammar456 he is always in the know. Am not sure if its worse than the ones in the '90's or not, and am not saying its not bad but what i am saying is that i dont believe that this will last more than a few days and that the Bahraini gov, along with the GCC nations (already being reported that Saudi and Kuwaiti armed forces are assisting) will allow it to be more than a bl00dy protest. I believe that this will be crushed, with many arrests in the dead of night..... The gov will make some concession (already started with a BD 1000 payout to all families) but i agree with DesertRose that this will not be the big one.... The GCC has too much to lose if the gov / King is overthrown. <em>edited by Izzy99 on 17/02/2011</em>

If you use twitter then follow ammar456 he is always in the know. I agree this is worse than the usual flare ups, but I only have the word of my son who works there to be able to say this. I dont however think its the big one just yet.

If you are right and the present troubles continue then i daresay the Formula ONE Grand Prix will be cancelled. Just admit you got the two events confused and posted an incorrect statement - easily done when one's brain is detached :D No i didn't get anything confused you misread and iterpreted a post wrong, i stated (quite correctly) the GP is under threat and that testing had already been cancelled if you did a google you would soon find that testing at the track has been cancelled, completely irelevant if it was the testing of Noddy's car, GP2 or GP. This was in response to your posts stating that there were no issues, which there are. Testing has been cancelled because and soley because of the troubles in Bahrain and for no other reason, therefore it is a more than logical deduction to deduce that any racing at the Sakhir circuit be it testing or race is at this point in time under threat and in doubt.

It is and it isn't the divide, strong influences coming in from Iran that don't help but they have always been tough on any Imans that get caught preaching that line. It has masses to do with the poverty, looking at their UAE neighbours and the PM. Bahrainis are pretty laid back they just want a fair deal, hence the King has rushed through payment of 1000 BD to everyone now. LOL "King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, the premier’s nephew, has ordered an increase in food subsidies and social welfare payments, and a grant of 1,000 dinars ($2,653) to each Bahraini family." Things have moved on since then Izzy the PM is older, New King and the Crown prince is on the scene, more democracy has been allowed from the old Amir's day and there is a new influence from Iran that has infiltrated into parliament. For sure it will be clamped down on but with other ME countries having fought and won their cause don't be so sure that some form of change will not happen in BAH. A major one would be the PM stepping down, the country is in a financial mess they can not afford trouble and companies pulling out at this time. I mentioned this country when the protests started a month or two back, it's been brewing for years.

But this is not unusual in Bahrain, they have regular protests and the government react in the same way each time.... F1 is a month away, so although i have heard this in the press, am not sure it will be affect as i really can't see the protests in Bahrain being allowed to last more than this weekend.... and to be honest, the ring leaders will have been / or will be in the process of being rounded up and will be in jail by Sunday morning... No Izzy this is a big one, these are not the little uprisings they have had previously, this is serious stuff that has been planned and prepared for. Lots will be in jail or dead but this has been brewing for years. F1 is in doubt. Disagree - the same thing happened in the 1990's - with lots killed then, this will be dealt with in the same way (sorry to say).

The latest bloodshed in Bahrain has again thrown into question the viability of staging next month's season-opening Formula One grand prix. To add to the two deaths earlier this week, a further three people were killed and at least 300 injured last night according to reports, as police stormed a camp of demonstrators in the island kingdom's capital Manama. The further outbreak of violence has today led to organisers of the GP2 Asia Series postponing a practice session scheduled to take place at the Bahrain International Circuit. A statement confirmed that given current local events the medical staff due to be working at the track had been temporarily called to the city's hospitals in case of an emergency. The statement added for obvious safety reasons the session will now take place tomorrow, although that could again be in doubt if there are further clashes overnight. With F1 due to descend on Bahrain in less than two weeks' time, as a test is scheduled from March 3-6 ahead of the race weekend itself from March 11-13, it is likely a decision will need to be made soon on whether the race can go ahead.
