Hello ladies,

I assume it’s not too cold during winter time in Abu Dhabi.
Would you recommend bringing any coats and down jackets? Or just sweaters and cardigans are fine?
I think I already know the answer but before getting rid of winter jackets, I guess I want to hear from any of you living in Abu Dhabi.:)
I’d greatly appreciate your reply!
Thank you so much!

Thank you all for your kind reply! I’m coming from the west coast of the US and was raised in one of the most dramatic weather cities, Chicago… and I have to say, I just can’t stand a cold weather. I guess that’s why I wanted to get rid of any winter jackets & coats I have (hoping not to live anywhere too cold again) but I strongly agree that I have a good chance of visiting so many other countries with colder winter. Your comments are so valuable and it really helps me so much! Thank you all very much!:) edited by Hyeyon on 29/10/2013

Coming from England - no, it's not cold at all! I have only worn one short padded jacket, and then only in the desert at night. Otherwise jumpers/cardigans/long sleeved tops or a pashmina would do in the evenings when it gets cooler. That said, I wouldn't necessarily get rid of all your winter gear, you might want to visit somewhere colder during the winter months e.g. Europe, Istanbul. You can find some warmer clothes in the shops here but there's less choice and they're more expensive.

It depends upon where you come from and what you are used to - if you are coming from the tropics so I did, then you will find the mornings and evenings and nights cold enough to wear something warm. In the middle of the day, it is OK, but I still need long sleeves - 20-24 degrees. The desert gets extremely cold at night as you would imagine - down to zero! So if you plan an evening BBQ, make sure you are wrapped up well!!
