it has come to my attention that i don't have the faintest idea where i should go for an emergency-- i sprained my ankle yesterday and went to rashid hospital which was an absolute circus (not to mention the wait time of 4 hours, and the doctor who saw me and just wrote some stuff down on a paper and said NOT EVEN ONE WORD to me about what happened to my leg, treatment, what med he was giving, how long i should wear the bandage etc). total incompetence and stupidity.

we live in DSO-- i have an infant too, so where would you guys suggest we go for proper competent emergency care if the need should arise? we have private insurance so are happy to go where needed.

I've always used the American Hospital and found them to be very good. I appreciate Daza's view on keeping A&E visits for emergencies but when my children have had broken bones I have gone to A&E where there are experienced orthopaedic specialists on site for consultation if necessary. Several years ago we were told that Rashid was the only hospital in Dubai with anti-venom, so that's where I would go for snake bites.

thanks ladies! @daza, like i said, i understand theres a wait time, and i understand how triage patients are assessed in accordance to the nature of their illness/injury. my issue with rashid was what i outlined above-- gross incompetence/apathy from the doctor and the horrific racial profiling of the nurses. thank you for the get well wishes! you don't realize how important an ankle is until you can't walk on it!!

Mediclinic are normally quite good. My friend was visiting with a small child and unfortunately he was quite ill. She took him to Mediclinic Dubai Mall on the spare of the moment and was seen within a minute. he had a full check up, medicine prescribed and they both went away happy.

If it's an actual emergency you'll get seen very quickly but a swollen ankle isn't an emergency. When you go to an emergency department they will quickly assess you and you'll be given a numbered rating depending on the urgency of your problem. A swollen ankle would get the lowest rating hence you will wait. Doctors can get really frustrated with non urgent cases taking up their time especially when busy and you would be much better off just going to a doctor's clinic. I don't know about DSO but the Mediclinic in Arabian Ranches has an X-Ray. When my son broke his foot I took him there, they were able x-ray and put the cast on there, no waiting. Same for me at there Dubai Mall clinic when I broke my ankle. Save the emergency room visits for genuine emergencies. I've been to two emergency departments here, both were brilliant. The first time was Medcare a couple of years ago for me. The second time was City very recently for my toddler. Both times I was seen immediately and the care was excellent. City was particularly good, the staff were amazing. I hope your ankle is feeling better soon :)

thanks ladies-- i always went to rashid whenever there was a problem-- but the wait times are SO LONG and the doctors i saw there both times i went were just completely incompetent. my foot was OBVIOUSLY swollen, they sent me to xray after i waited for 3 hours, and then i come back to the dr who just says no fracture and orders a nurse to give me an injection and then i have to wear a compression bandage. like HELLO-- what do i have? how do i treat? how long do i wear the bandage? how long wont i be able to walk? and what did u order the nurse to inject me with??? until i asked he didn't say anything!! ABSURD. not only that i saw some very disturbing behavior from the nurses there who were taking care of patient registration. as soon as a western looking (white) person came in, they immediately moved them to the front of the line and they were seen by a triage nurse with NO WAIT. it happened 3 times when i was there and i finally opened my mouth and said something. i got SO ANGRY!!! i understand that theres a wait time involved whenever you go to an emergency room, but the condition i witnessed there yesterday was horrendous and the medical care even worse.

OP, i presume it was because your case wasn't an emergency as such that you were left to wait? I'd always understood that Rashid was the place to go if you really needed help?

In DSO if minor just needing a doctor there is Symbiosis clinic during the day. For real emergencies, adults go to Rashid and children to Latifa. These are the best trauma units in Dubai. For A and E departments but not serious trauma you can go to City, Medicare or American, depending on your insurance.

My GP recommended City. I have used medcare and lifeline, both horrible experiences. Both times I was extremely unwell and was taken to the nearest place. God forbid I need to go again I will go to City.
