Hi Ladies,

I'm going to Sydney for a week in Jan/Feb and although I have lived there, I want to act like a tourist this time, so was thinking of things to do at this time of year:

I came up with Hunter Valley wine tasting tour, and Blue Mountains day trip

Any other ideas?? Would love some help to turn me into a real tourist, unfortunately my imagination isn't very active so am stuck for ideas...

Hi Ladies, I'm going to Sydney for a week in Jan/Feb and although I have lived there, I want to act like a tourist this time, so was thinking of things to do at this time of year. Oh wow, SNAP! I arrive for a mini-hol on Oz Day [26 January'>. And I was visiting EW today, seriously, just to check out posts about touristy things to do in Sydney. I'm an ex-Sydneysider, but also wanted to don a 'visitor's' cap for my trip. :) So am bumping this up, in the hopes there are more great ideas. :D Love the username......are you a SATC fan by chance?

Let me know if you need any advice for the Hunter Valley....that is where I am from and use to be the manager of the visitors centre there. Beautiful place..........homesick :( I agree it would be a great idea to hire a car. The Hunter is an easy drive from Sydney. Once there, you can either drive yourself around the vineyards or join a bus tour. Most of the larger wineries are open 7 days per week but the boutique wineries may close on Monday/Tuesday. Most of the wineries are in the Lovedale/Pokolbin area with others in the Mt View area. Some of my suggestions are below; Wineries; McGuigans (also have a cheese factory), Margan Family Wines, Krinklewood Organic Vineyard, Small Winemakers Centre (you can taste wines from some of the boutique wineries one place), Tallavera Grove (amazing views), Petersons House (specialising in 'champagne') Restaurants; Tatlers (great tapas), Bistro Molines, Cracked Pepper and Rock Restaurant Also there is the Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop and Hunter Valley Chocolate Company. Also check out www.hunterweb.com.au and www.winecountry.com.au Hope this helps :)

You are very welcome. It was nice to be able to help as I suspect my posts over the coming weeks may be weighted to [i'>asking [/i'>for help from you girls. Yeah, as someone who regularly takes her family back to Sydney to visit grandparents etc, you can waste a lot of time waiting for public transport. Particularly if you want to get out of the immediate city. For me, the $600 is worth the time savings when you only have a week.

@ Buy me a pony (hehe love the name btw) thank you so much for your suggestions!! I wasn't planning a rental car, but you're right it'll probably be a good idea to make the most of the week.

Hi, I used to live in Sydney so could probably make a few suggestions. Not sure if you will have a rental car, but it would certainly help: Climb the Bridge at sunset Rocks Markets on a Sunday with brunch at the Quay Paddington Markets (for some new designer rags) and a trawl down Oxford Street on a Saturday High Tea in the Tea Room at Queen Victoria Building Taronga Zoo or a stroll through Mosman/Neutral Bay to look at the shops Drive up the coast to Palm Beach, climb the hill to the lighthouse and/or have a lovely lunch & swim on the beach Seaplane from Rose Bay to either Jonah's at Palm Beach or Cottage Inn on the Hawkesbury Swimming, fish and chips & gelato on Bondi Beach or do the cliff walk from Bondi to Tamarama/Bronte/Clovelly etc Afternoon at Watsons Bay pub or do the walk from Watsons bay to South Head Ferry to Manly followed by dinner and a ghost tour of the quarantine station See something at the Opera House after having dinner at Aria or one of the other fine dining venues along the forecourt Umm, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Have a lovely holiday, Sydney is fabulous.
