It opens at 9 for visa applications sun -thurs. Pick up is in the afternoon. It is next to the Indian Embassy in Bur Dubai near Maktoum Bridge. There is a car park next to it.

my syrian visa took one week and certainly cost less than $150 from the dubai embassy. my american friend was told her would take one month, and there was no guarantee that they would even give her one! she didn't come on our trip :(

With you on the cost, sounds like there may have been an...ahem..."service charge" included. We certainly didn't pay that much to get our visas from the consulate here in Dubai before we went to Syria. Ah well, young travellers have to live and learn :-)

Thanks for the info, but that sounds like a lot of money! I'm sure DH and I never paid that sort of money for getting the visas in advance - was some years ago though, so I could be wrong!....Also, I myself, am not sure that I would chance arriving at the border to get the visas on the off chance that they wouldn't let me in. But that's just me - I tend to plan things too much! <em>edited by chizz on 13/01/2011</em>

DD and boyfriend arrived at the Lebanon/Syria border this morning without visas and, despite all the official information to the contrary, they were issued Syrian entry visas without any problems. They paid $150 each, the visas were stamped in their passports and they were through, she reckons in less than 5 minutes. They are now sightseeing in Damascus.

I have been invited to a conference in Syria later this year, and received the following info from the organizers regarding visas. Note that the info refers to the Four Seasons, as that is the conference venue. I would assume that many hotels can provide the same. [i'>[b'>Visas to Syria Arab nationals do not need visas to travel to Syria. All other nationalities must apply through their embassies. The Four Seasons hotel arranges visas for guests of all nationalities except US citizens, who need to apply through the Syrian embassy in their country. To obtain a visa through the Four Seasons in Damascus, please send a copy of your passport and reservation confirmation number to [email protected]. The cost of the visa runs between SYP 1,000-2,000 or USD 20-45.[/b'>[/i'>

DDs just learnt a lesson about doing some research before travelling and assumed that she could just waltz up to the Syrian border and get a visa on the spot. Not so, we have learnt over the past 24 hours that visa must be applied for [b'>in the country of residence[/b'>, so if you have UAE residence you can get your visa from the Syrian consulate in Dubai but overseas based visitors must get their visas from the nearest Syrian consulate/embassy in their home country. If you're a UAE resident you just download the application form from the net, complete it, take it to the the consulate who then tell you they will not accept handwritten forms and they will direct you to the nearest typing centre (sigh). Have it typed in duplicate, take it with two photos and original passport back to consulate, pay the fee, sorry for the life of me I can't remember how much it was, then it only took a couple of days. Oh noooooooooo!!!! Just took ages filling out those forms!!! Does anybody know roughly how much it will be to have them typed?
