http://fatexpatdxb.blogspot.com Anyone interested in a UK expat trying to lose weight and get fit. Amusing at times but something we can all relate to! If you do like it, share it with your friends and family who might find something inspirational from my struggle. Im only new to this and learning each day. Was created initially on Facebook for family and friends but they suggested going "global" with it ha ha! Let me know what you think...

I have blogs I follow according to my interests - sewing, quilting and some home decor ones in the Asian region. Other than that I do find them a bit narcissistic if they are not around a particular theme. Several friends have suggested we do a blog about our experiences in Dubai - somewhere they can read the stories and see the photo's at once - unlike Facebook which is just "soundbytes". I don't know...it's not really my style and to have to come up with something witty or interesting to say on a regular basis would be kind of stressful. But I understand the importance of keeping in touch with family and friends so if we do it, it would be a private blog, I think. [i'>On this topic: Does anyone know of a good blog by westerners who have moved to Dubai? I would love to find something like this, just to hear of their experiences and their kids' adjustment to the move...[/i'> we use facebook and occasional emails but none of the parents have computers lol.. Facebook also have an app called Hotprints where you can have your photos made into a book and posted to anyone in the world - i do these to show the grandparents pics of the children. Cheap n cheerful but they've been much appreciated. Sorry, no help re blogging - can't imagine anyone being that interested in anything i have to say lol (*waits for confirmation :))

[i'>On this topic: Does anyone know of a good blog by westerners who have moved to Dubai? I would love to find something like this, just to hear of their experiences and their kids' adjustment to the move...[/i'> That's the direction I'm going to take my blog, sort of a "life as an expat" blog. My oldest son and I have been going back and forth from the states to AD for 2.5 years now but now that son #2 is home from Russia we are selling the house here in the states and going fulltime in Dubai so I really want to blog about our time as a way for our family to look back years from now on what our life was like. Anyone have any blogs they love and would like to share?

I have a blog which is just what we've been up to with lots of photos. I started it over 7 years ago. Two of my brothers also have family blogs and I find it's a really nice way to keep up with what's going on each others lives when we are scattered around the world. It's also a great record of our children growing up. I can't imagine it would interest anyone other than family or close friends. When my first child was born and I was going slightly mad being stuck at home with a baby I actually found blogging really therapeutic.

I love reading blogs especially where I can find neat decorating ideas, recipes, photography tips, etc. There are so many talented people out there and I love to find inspiration from them. Our adoption blog started out as a way to keep our family informed since they are scattered throughout the states. I put our adoption timeline on it, our struggles with the government forces to get paperwork done, I put tips for people to use if they got stuck with an adoption problem, put helpful adoption websites on the blog and really tried to detail everything we went through as a way of remembering for our own family and as a way to help other people. To my total surprise a lot of people around the world started following the blog and said how helpful it was during their adoption journey so that made me feel good that I could help other people. When I let everyone know that I was ending the adoption blog b/c our journey was finished I got so many comments from people upset that I was going to stop blogging about our boys and how they were settling in to our family and the move we were making to UAE that I had to start a seperate day-to-day blog that I update about our travels and how the boys are doing. I love blogging and I love following other people's blogs. I've learned so much through the blogging community and think it's a great thing. absolutely brilliant. what a lovely way to deal with adoption and your meaing making of it all.

seems like those who don't enjoy reading blogs are reading the wrong ones! i love food, photo, fashion and decor blogs too. there are also very funny ones such as hyperbole and the donut one. blogs are living stories and it exposes us to global and local trends. it is not only about what is written, but how it is written and presented.

I blog too....mine is like a recipe site. I started it to basically put all my recipes in one place, try out new ones and eventually, maybe make a book out of it to pass it on to my daughter!!! I love reading other blogs too- mainly food ones though!

I blog about food, design and decor and follow blogs in the same league. I love following food and decor blogs because there's so much new out there to see and drool at! I blog about interesting pieces or recipes in the spirit of sharing. Yeah, but I don't really get the opinion blogs so much... unless they are hysterical and make for a fun read :)

I read Pioneer Woman on a regular basis and a few others. I blogged throughout our entire adoption journey from Russia. Once home I converted my blog into a book so my children can go back and read about how they became a part of our family. Aw, that's lovely. I think blogging like that is totally different and acceptable. I don't get this twitter thing at all though....why would anyone want to know for example if I was having a cup of tea and a ham sandwich? Seems a bit strange to me!

Although I do read a couple of blogs on a regular basis, it's just purely cause I'm nosey ;) otherwise really can't stand this whole narcissism obsessive of "I'm special and people should be interested in me and what I've got to say" society which is tragically unfolding throughout the world. Pomegranate I couldn't agree more..... SH

Because only journalists are special? I know lots of "professional writers" that aren't interesting at all!

True, although I think blogs which details peoples experience in certain areas are invaluable to others. Depends really on the subject matter.

I thought it was hilarious that the National ran a story on more Emiratis blogging...and 2 out of 3 examples they gave were expats!
