Thanx ladies so it looks like 20k a year extra is about right, that's what we were thinking of being in the region of.
And BMAP I have only been here since Aug last year, but I find it too chilly for a swim at the moment, going from such an extreme temp to a much lower one albeit still very nice is a huge adjustment..... We went to Wild Wadi in Nov with some friends and found that too cold in the afternoon.....
Hi emlsnre - We moved into a New 4 Bedroom villa in Al Warqaa at the beginning of Aug 10. We asked the landlord to install a swimming pool, shade and paving. After negotiations, he has decided to do this for an extra 20k per year and instead of one cheque per year, we asked and got 2 cheques per year. The price also includes the pool being cleaned out 3 times a year. I hope this helps.
Very good points FCM and emlanre. Do people swim all year-round there? I note is about 25 degrees there at present so for the middle of winter that still sounds like reasonable swimming weather to me.
the first year i was here i swam all winter, three years in i am way too acclimatised to the heat and think that the pool is freezing - ditto the sea! i shan't be getting in the water until march!

My dh maintains the pool just hoovers it once a week and adds salt to it when we find a supplier? and tests the water etc....
Our pool guys wanted 500 dhs a month to do it...
We wanted our own one so we could swim in the evening when the kids are asleep, also they can use it when they want .... when we lived in the Ranches the pool always got packed and it was hard finding a sun bed.
Are you happier having your own pool than using a community pool?
Just wondering about the pro's and con's of having your own private pool versus the alternative. Do you find maintenance of a private pool a hassle?
Was also thinking a community pool might facilitate making friendships in your local community, but the downside is that you have to get organised to get the family there and it might be crowded too or not maintained to your standard.
Wondering whether we should be looking for a villa with or without a pool...
We have no community pool so have membership at a club so from that point of view we get to meet people. But then there is also the hygiene side of community pools that I try hard not to think about..... the convenience of having a pool at home would be nice.

yep we re at the villa...had our pool done by absoloute pools....when u come in the entrance we re the yellow house on the right have a nose in the garden if u like :) ( the sign is still up from the pool people)its a saltwater pool :)
Also would reccomend pools by design with david russel he does them quicker and more reliable, his done alot of pools in The Villa as well.
Our landlord put a pool in only because they plan on living in the villa in 6 years time.
we paid an extra 20 k on the rent ...as they put in a huge pool and we were very inpressed with it. We also moved in before the work started took about 3 months do complete the pool and all the landscaping.
Can you remember who installed the pool? Are you at The Villa?

Have any of you any experience where you have been in a villa for a while and then asked for a pool to be installed? Not sure whether to move on to where there is one already done or ask LL if he is open to putting one in. If so, do you know how much additional rent you would be looking at paying for having the pool?
TIA
It's probably easier to move to another villa where the pool is already there otherwise you will have a minimum of 3 months without a garden while the pool is put in...... often it drags on much longer - my friend has only just got her pool in and it tookover 6 months of no garden.....
some people pay for it themselves but look for a reduction in rent and a longer rental contract ie 2 or 3 years as opposed to an annual renewal..... that's what quite a few of my mates have done.
