thanks ladies. DH thinks its maybe a few days old so definitely not old enough to wean. He's going to show me pics tonight. I'm sure both DSs will go crazy. Where is the mum and pups? I would actually suggest you call K9 Friends as it might be better if they can take them in, as they can look after mum and pups properly until the pups are old enough to leave mum. Just let them know you with to have one of the pups when they are weaned. They are open 9am - 1pm, Sunday-Thursday and Saturday. :) do you know the contact number 04 885 8031, there is a mobile no. as well but sorry cannot find my mobile to get the no. Maybe someone else has got it. The landline has an answer machine if you phone outside their opening hours.

That would be wonderful to help the poor things. Please make sure they are all weaned properly before anyone takes them from their mum, usually about 8 weeeks. Her milk will dry up and then she can be fixed at the vets so she doesn't get knocked up again :) . I'm sure one of the animal organisations would help with costs etc. good luck

we did :) ours was found in a bin in al quoz. we have had him since he was 10 weeks and he is just the best... has the most gorgeous nature.. he is nearly 2 now... ETA do it :) <em>edited by cakes on 02/02/2011</em>

I've rescued 4 dogs over the years (and found them good homes thank goodness!) From youngish dogs maybe about a year old to elderly, probably 7 or 8 years old. The ones I found (or who found me - I swear there was a telegraph line between them, as soon as I found a home for 1 another would turn up in about a month). One issue with dominance (not likely to occur with a puppy) but be sure to have them checked for parvo and kennel cough (the first is fatal the second a nuisance). Good on you DH for (a) asking first and (b) both of you for being willing to take in a pup. May I suggest that the guys at DHs work try to work on getting Mum a home (or at least fixed when the time is right)

got ourselves a wee foster pup here at the moment, she's only about 12 weeks old, born wild, and had never known a person til she was caught and delivered to me. She has to be the nicest, most loving, eager to please, quick to learn and healthy dog. She's going to make someone very happy as a new member in their family one day.

Yes many times, only occasionally problems with older abused dogs with behavioural issues. A puppy will present no such difficult, and in fact will be a better bet healthwise than any of the imported in bred puppies available here Take a pup, will mean one less poor little homeless doggie and a lifetime of love for you.....plus a lot of good karma.

Our dog is a stray from DH's work. She was about 3 months old when we got her. She was the last of the litter and someone at the company was going to phone Municipality to take her away, so we took her. She is wonderful, and it would be far better that you took in one of the litter than they were left to their own devices and whatever fate brings along. :)

I know there are a few that have taken in stray cats but what about dogs. DH just called to say one of the dogs that is usually in their work yard just had a litter of pups and wants to know if we want one. Of course if we were to take in a pup it would be brought to the vet first but has anyone had difficulty with this.
