we actually throw baby showers before the baby is born :) (1st baby, not the subsequent babies as we assume they will use the handmedowns lol) so give the gift now but if uncomfortable, ask for mum to be not to open until the birth :)

Why would it be rude? Where I come from it is quite common to give gifts for just the baby.

I think it's a lovely thought and she is lucky to have such a caring friend. I think the thing about not having baby stuff in the house before the birth is an old superstition and only really applies to big things like the pram or cot..we always got all our things beforehand but left them at parents' houses etc.. I'm sure a small gift will be most welcome.

Hello ladies, I am travelling home in a couple of weeks and one of my really good friends is pregnant. She will deliver just 2 weeks after I leave, and I assume she will already have bought some stuff for the baby before that... I found this really cute newborn toy and bought it. But I am not sure if it is ok to give someone a baby gift before baby is born? What do you think? Would it be possible for you to leave it with someone to give to her after the baby is born?
