I see teats for bottles of 3+, 6+ and 9+ months. Do you buy them once your baby reaches that milestone? A friend advised me to sterlize a needle and increase the hole size in the existing teat. Is that advisable? How would I know what size should the hole be to suit the demands of my 6 month old DS??

TIA

CW, supposedly it's not advisable to increase the whole size as its not hygienic. I read this in a report but can't remember where - something to do with the silicone not being properly sealed and getting milk / etc stuck in the whole. In terms of when you should increase the size for your DS, it really depends on your DS. Mine was textbook - she was trying to suck on the bottle so hard to get more milk and it was frustrating her. So to transition, just make sure that your DS is not frantically hungry the first time so he is able to recognize there is more milk with every draw. He might choke a little but they get the hang of it pretty quickly. HTH

sometimes its a sales ploy. Honestly to increase the size depends on your baby. Both mine gobble too quickly so if i increase the size they choke. my first DS never increased the nipple size unless i added some rice cereal to his bottle.
