Our maid has been with us now for 7 months now, and in all honesty we were not going to renew her visa in july again. The reasons for not renewing are so long and it would take me ages to go through it all. Both me and DH are really fed up with her and can not deal with the hassel of a maid. She does not do any child care at all, she mainly cleans the house and laundry. Her attitude is poor and if she belives we are wrong she will make her feeling known, she does not like being told what to do when we ask her to do something, and will end up doing it the way she thinks things should be done.
The last 2 weeks have been really bad with her, I got to the point where I did not want to talk to her and ask her to do something for me coz i know it will not be done, so I would rather do it myself knowing it will be done. There was a lot of tention in the house. At this point DH said he was going to cancel her visa early and send her back home.

I get in a few day ago and she tells me her newborn grandson has been taken to hospital and he is really sick. I ask her what is wrong with him, she says she does not know. Anyway throughout the day she comes to me with different versions of the same story, only each time the situations is becoming worse and she says the doc said the boy will die. But she can not tell me what he is dying off. so I said to her we can call her daughter and she can pass us onto the doc, all of sudden her daughter is not at the hospital. Then she later says her daughter has just called her saying the boy is on a vetilator and is dying. I asked again to speak to the doc but she comes up with another reason why I cant. To me something seems really odd and I dont buy the story at all, neither does DH.

Now at this point am I ment to say oh gosh here is some money, I've booked you a ticket home for 2 weeks. Or do I wait for her to come to me and ask? Secondly do I owe her a ticket home? to be honest I dont believe in my heart that she will come back. If she does go home, I will cancel her visa as that is what we intended to do anyway.

So what should my next move be?

One way ticket home. Don't owe her anything but that. Definitely help her pack her suitcase, as VP says. Or at least stand in the doorway while she packs it herself. Unfortunately, we had to pay for it. We were told by the immigration office that we have to pay the one-month salary when sending her back home. The contract used in Dubai provides so and it does not make any difference whether you terminated her contract because she refused to comply with her obligations under the contract or not. But at the time that she is going home, you aren't terminating her contract. She is travelling home at her request to see her grandkid or whatever. When she is gone, you terminate her contract.

To be honest, I was chocked by their interpretation of the contract because even in my country (where employment law is very protective of the employee), if you terminate the contract of an employee who committed serious breach of the contract (like her), you don't have to pay him any compensation. You're right for the costs, in 2 months she costs us more than dirhams 20,000 (all the items that she broke at home not included). I would have preferred spending this money on holidays ou anything else. edited by KB75 on 11/03/2011

We did not give our BBBed maid her last month's salary, and she had worked to the 27th of the month. No way! These maids have no idea how much it costs us to sponsor them and they do not deserve their last month's salary if they can't fulfill their contract because they're playing around!

do not pay her one month salary. who the heck ordered that one? she has not completed her contract, and just for the record, you should never have entered into any conversation with you maid regarding her daughter, the baby or any other stuff. Maids come from poorer backgrounds, and I doubt they ever had access to incubaters and stuff, the hospitals would never allow them in without massive deposits. if your maid turns on the tears, please ignore. go to her phone and remove all of your numbers from it do not tell her she has a ban or a one way ticket or a cancelled visa. Did you enjoy your ride? Get off at the next stop, seems you took the wrong route. edited by vero possumus on 11/03/2011

I had the same problem with my maid, she was lying all the time(In all my life, I've never met a liar like her), she refused to do what I was asking her to do, she spent her time sleeping or calling her friends. I cancelled her visa 2 months after I recruited her. I lost a lot of money but now I feel better than when she was here. And I am very happy to do the housework myself. If you cancel her visa, you have to pay her a ticket home plus one-month salary. Better to send her immediately after the cancellation of the visa since you will be still responsible for her unless she has a new sponsor or leaves the country.

will have to agree with vp - while somethings get lost in translation (especially in an emergency situation). This lady sounds like she's trying to come up with a story that will get her what she wants (and what will sound "good" to you). Send her home to help her family

Moonbeam, I strongly recommend that you have no further discussion with her. Book her on the cheapest route home, cancel her visa, place a ban (tell immigration she lies and does not do her work), and lastly, please make sure that YOU pack her suitcase. Once packed, do not let her back into her room.

What makes me raise my eyebrows is that when she first told me her DD was pregnant in Jan, she said the baby was due in feb, the daughter only just told her, then she said the baby developed without a brain an would die shortly after birth. I looked it up on the net and it does happen. then feb came and the baby was born-he was normal with no complications! app 2 different docs made a mistake:\: even then I felt like I was ment to send her on a flight home to be there, I asked her what she wanted to do, but she did not come to me to say she wanted to go home. After that, thats when all the issues with her started to get worse. I asked if the father of the baby was helping her daughter, she said he did not want her daughter to have anything to do with the guy and she was going to support daughter and baby. but she would complain she did not have enough money. I have not given her anymore money so far. She has just told me that the baby has passed away, but they have already burried him, he passed away this morning and burried this afternoon, when I asked where she got the money from, the baby's father was supporting the baby all along and he contributed to the funeral. But what do I do? Do I pay for her ticket home? she has not worked for me for a year. what do I do?

It's definitely suspicious if you can't speak to a dr - sounds like it's not true but......if you are not happy with her anyway and have already decided not to renew so you would be sending her home anyway - and as there is tension in the house I would put her on a flight out of here with a ban. that way - if the story is true she will be able to be there for her new grandson and for her daughter and gets what she wants but......if it's not true it serves her right for lying and making up a story.....she will be at home with no job to come back to. At least you don't have to know if it's true or not......you can feel content that she's out of your home......

If he's that sick she should be with him. I think you'd be doing her a favour by putting on the next plane home. With a cancelled visa, of course.
