SAHM - feeling a bit down

I had a baby in September 2010 and went back to work in December, but decided to quit as my baby was too young to be left with some unknown maid. I worked my notice period and it is now 2 weeks since I have finished and I am feeling a bit lost and lonely during the day. I have many friends but I have no car so am limited to taking taxis to go and see them which is not practical every single day, I do go out at least once a week by taxi. I go for walks around the lake in the Springs which is where I live but there is no adult conversation. Don't get me wrong - I am loving being with my baby but after having worked for the past 10 years this feels a bit weird. Is it normal and will pass? Has anyone else gone through this? Any suggestions on what I can do that does not involve having to take a taxi? Thanks in advance

Hi New Mummy! I've recently moved to Springs 11 and have a daughter born in October 2010. I often have a walk around the lake, please feel free to say hello if you spot me...I have a black and beige bugaboo! Sometimes I have my 3 year old with me on his bike - but sometimes he's at nursery. At the moment things are a bit hectic, I have the inlaws here, and I am desperately trying to get my daughter to sleep better at night by getting her into a proper routine, so I am not sure when I'll next be around, but look out for me!

Thank you for all the replies! :) Shjbelle - congrats! I also have a daughter. I go to the bumps and babes coffee mornings in MOE - Dubai mall is a bit too far by taxi. Do you have any more info on the mummies group? Which one is the village mall? Mrs Laughan: Yes, next time I go for a walk and if I see any mums I will try and start chatting. Great to hear that your 2 kids keep you very busy! Guinness - congrats! Online course sounds great! I might do that! I have heard about Buggyfit - sounds good. I am in Springs 11. If you ever fancy having coffee in Springs town centre (Shakespeare or Starbucks) as I can walk there :) please let me know edited by New Mummy on 20/03/2011 edited by New Mummy on 20/03/2011

Which springs are you in? I'm in Meadows 7, with twins born in September 2010. But as for suggestions, could you try an online course, for example? So you are still doing something for yourself ... Other suggestions - Buggyfit at the Hayya (don't need to be member), BabySplash at the Hayya, perhaps have someone come you to teach you a language - I've seen Arabic and French teachers recently ... Or of course, like many of us with young babies, spend an interminable amount of time on EW!

It will take you awhile to build up a network- I would say go to the parks, try and met some mums in your community. I also think it's really normal to feel a bit lost when you at first become a SAHM - it took me quite awhile to get used to not having the stress and very clear sense of purpose that my career gave me.... Now I have 2 I don't have a chance to think about it!

nnaahh... i don't think so.. I'm like you..i need to be out and about..if your bub is born in sept... your LO is about the same age as my DD... like you, we only have one car... do you go out to play groups and stuff? there is a new mummies group opening up tom at the village mall... don't they have baby classes somewhere near the lakes? the most i can stay at home is max 3-4 days..then I have to go out.. so yeah..it is normal... go and google playgroups and classes... :D S
