Thin line between being a housewife and a maid

Lately Mr Freckles has started leaving his dirty clothes on the bedroom floor and moaning if he can't find clean undies etc.

Now, I know he works etc but so do I (housewife, mother, general dogsbody 24/7)

There is a thin line between a housewife and a maid and Mr Freckles is very close to crossing it.

In my household I am regarded as a factotum. That is sometimes mispronounced. edited by Marooned on 23/03/2011

I just quit to be a SAHM. I do have a maid (who is a god send as DD is a hyperactive child who needs a LOT of attention all the time!). By 7 pm I am exhausted completely from doing all DD related work and groceries, bill payments, appointments (oh yes, apparently I double as the PA), giving the squirmiest child in the world a bath, organizing and cooking dinner, ensuring laundry is properly sorted, closing all closets and drawers that DH has opened in order to get out 1 shirt 1 trouser 1 pair of undies 1 pair of socks, picking up his MESS (MIL never kept a neat house). DH comes home in the evening and is irritable. I ask why "because I have to work and you get to sit at home all day and play with DD" Really? ok, lets swap places then. Then wants to know which friends I have planned activities with in the evenings and why do I look so tired and dishevelled (I dont get time in my day to make PHONE CALLS!) I might be responsible for homicide soon. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Ooops....think I have done Mr Freckles an injustice. Just been upstairs and it looks like he threw them in the laundry on his way to work. Must have been all the filthy looks and tutting from me this morning which leads me to the second question of the day : Why, OH WHY ! Does he always wait for me to be so upset to start doing something ??? Sounds familiar. I said to my husband that he had a lead head today as he never seems to listen unless I nag! LOL! :)

maids get paid you know. and their own room. and a day off. AND flights home on a yearly basis. I'm going to complain to the authorities Funny that I thought exactly like you....and actually, I'm a housemom too, so 3 more to take care... And the worst is that even if I try to educate my 3 children, the eldest one (aka DH) still doesn't do anything...s why would they ??? I also start to wonder if I would get more acknowledgement if I say I'm a maid, instead of I'm a housewife....

I refuse to wash anything that is not in the dirty clothes baskest. DH learnt early on that if he wants it washed it needs to be in the right place othewise it will sit on the floor until he runs out of clean clothes. He soon got the message and now never leaves things on the floor. :) Even labelling different baskets hasn't completely solved 'our' problem. Despite having washing baskets written thereon with 'dry cleaning', 'whites', and 'coloured' in black marker, DH's socks still end up stuffed down the sofas. Of course, one of my dogs is definitely contributing to the problem! :D That said, I'm the same: if it isn't in the baskets, it doesn't get washed. ;) . edited by WaxMuch on 23/03/2011

I love when they say.... 'what have you done all day?' cleaning, cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, taxi service, and mom to two little ones apparently can't justify me sitting down and relaxing for an hour while the kids nap. Oh, I don't get that question. I do get asked 'what have you been up to?' to which my response is always: 'Making life easier for you, dear'. And when I'm really making life nice for DH, and he tells me -- in a heartfelt fashion -- that he loves me, my response is: 'I don't blame you'. :D right, thats the way forward. i am writing those responses down and keeping clipped to fridge.

If this was Mr Suze, then I'm afraid he would be wearing dirty undies (I wouldn't tolerate the clothes lying around though so I'd just throw those into the bottom of his wardrobe in a big heap). Mind you, Mr Suze is in the dog house as he sacked the maid yesterday while I was out at work and I arrived home to an unmade bed. I doubt this will happen again!

Ah, but do you have a labour card denoting you as a 'domestic servant', aroha? ;) but I'm with frecks, it says on my passport that I am not allowed to work! and if what a maid does is conscidered work, and if I do her job here in this household i want her perks too! (actually just procrastinating as finding it increasingly difficult to be motivated about house work)

When I first got married-my husband tried to pull this ****. He is the youngest and I think was used to his mom picking up his clothes. Once, after a business trip he left his suitcase wide open on the floor, with dirty clothes here and there...I asked or days for him to put it away. Finally, I came home one night and saw that it was still there. I calmly went into the bedroom, and took out every piece of clothing he owned from every drawer and closet and left a massive pile on the floor. Then walked out and went out to a nice dinner by myself. I came home to a man who got the point, cleaned up everything and he has never done it since. ;)
