I'm trying to make sense of all my photos (deleted 2600 in the last 2 days!).

I have events but I'm finding I either have too many events or each event has too many photos in it.

Ideally I'd like to be able to subdivide events ie. have one called School 2010/11 and then be able to subdivide into DD's school events, DS's school events, school charity events etc. To have them all floating around in the one event, or to have an event for each 'event' seems unwieldly to me.
Any hints please?

Yeah, I have that but I find that each event has too many photos in it - for example SCHOOL. it has hundreds of photos in it of both kids doing various things at school. If I want to be more specific such as organising for DS's events at school it means creating a new event which I don't want to do. I already have 157 events and would like to be able to reduce that number so for example I would like to have an Event called SCHOOL 2011 and inside that Event, instead of having 600 photos of the kids doing various things at school I would like to have sub-events such as 'DD school play', 'DS field trip', 'DS Sports Day' and so on. To have only events I have to scroll through (potentially) hundreds of photos inside each event. To have Events for each specific topic I have hundreds of Events to scroll through. Maybe Events aren't the way to go but I don't know what the alternative is to keep everything organised.

You can split, divide or merge events very easily. Just select the photo you wish to start a new event with and go to the pull down menu - event and choose split. You can call it whatever you like and it will be stored chronologically. You can also "flag" random photos, then go to the event pull down menu and then choose "create an event from the flagged photos" in case you say want to make all the photos of someone in one event Personally I call all my events 2010 Dec - blah blah It's really very easy
