In addition to short changing.

How many people check their bills and spot the mistakes over charging and then go back and request it to be corrected ?

A lot of profit is made also in that area.

and yet people were defending in a different thread last week bag packers were a benefit we don't pay for.

How naive people are or maybe have too much money!

On a different note. What do the shopkeepers do with this so called unexpected profit.

They certainly do not donate it to charity as maybe they should stating is has come from customers and not passing it off as their charity donation.

Stores are all about profit profit profit not good customer care in this region.

I've had the next person in the queue's items on my bill, not because of the check out operators fault, but because the next customer's rudeness in invading my personal space, asking the check out boy questions whilst he's still trying to serve me putting her items on the conveyor best right next to mine etc. If she got any closer we'd have been sharing the same shoes! :\: edited by Dally on 12/04/2011

I can not believe that the initiative comes from the shop owners, especially not in supermarkets like carrefour, geant, waitrose.... So how anybody can benefit from doing it on purpose is still a question to me. But it does happen! I have never checked the receipts until I went to this small shop. I bought stuff for work, and I felt the price was way to high but then I just paid it. Only because I had to declare it at work I noticed I had paid for several items the previous customer bought. I thought it was an honest mistake until it happened again (me now being constantly aware here!). I guess the first customer pays, they leave it on the receipt, second one pays again and the double money the staff can put in their pocket. So now in small shops, I will always check, on big grocery bills I will have a brief look but actually still way too little...

Having spotted mistakes a few times once I was home, I now always check as soon as I get my receipt. During the thread on packers, I mentioned that it was useful having the trolley unloaded and goods packed as it gives one the chance to watch the prices as items are scanned (also good for the memory to try and memorise the price of items!) as there are often errors. The other things to check are the labels on fruit and veg as quite often the wrong item is keyed in; the other day I was being charged about 40dh too much for oranges. Groceris cost enough without paying extra for mistakes.
