what should i give? my son is ready for his first solid and i will give it to him tomorrow. i want it be natural so was thinking of mashed banana or avocado..read that lots of people give rice cereal.. any recommendations/thoughts?

how old is he? Don't forget, under 18 weeks, solids are a no-no.... completely. From 6 months on, you could in fact skip purées and go straight for finger-food if you so wished. The earlier you start, the slower you should go in terms of both textures and new flavours, but at the end of the day, follow your baby's leads and it'll all come good. Baby rice is fine as a first food, but it's duuuulllllll! Mashed banana is also good, but you could also try any number of fruit or veg purees (or steamed/ soft chunks). I used to do a porridge with oats, banana and apple, which DS couldn't get enough of. He was 5.5 months when I started him and we skipped along quite quickly to chunks (didn't help that on Day 3, I found DD feeding him grown-up pasta!). I started DD earlier - at 18 weeks - but by 6 months she was on normal meals too.
