Asian 5 Nations
UAE vs Japan Sevens Stadium 13 May (fri) 8pm~
Free for entry

Three-times-reigning-champion, Japan will play all games “away” this year due to the devastating earthquake in March. Among the team members is forward Hatakeyama, whose family home was swept away by the tsunami. National coach John Kirwan says “The people of Japan have been resilient and showed tremendous courage after the tragedy. I want the players to take these qualities on to the rugby field.”

They play the newly formed UAE national team, which replaced former regional union, Arabian Gulf. The UAE team has just enjoyed their maiden win (24-10) against Kazakhstan, the second best team of Asia.

The Japanese side have dedicated all games this season to remembering the victims of the tragedy. The UAE Rugby association has also expressed support to this campaign and has kindly offered all proceeeds of the programme to go to the earthquake fund. Please come and show your support!

I wouldn't fancy having some hunky rugby lads in the gym with me- far too much distraction :) We plan to have memorablia signed by the team and by their kiwi coach John Kirwin on sale at the game. Hoping to entice as many people as possible to come. Hehe....you may be right. But it was such an appealing distraction ;) I had to thank them for distracting me from looking at the clock like I usually do lol It felt like a very short and easy work-out today :D On a serious note, good luck with the fundraising event at the game!

On Al Ain Road, a little past the Outlet Mall going towards Al Ain. The great thing about it is that it is licensed so you can actually have a drink (as longs as you've sorted transportation of course :) )

Past the Outlet Mall along Al Ain Road. Just keep going and then it's on the right side of the road. edited by muurtje on 10/05/2011

I was just down at the gym at Fitness First and saw lots of atheletes training vigorously. Not a sports fan myself, I had no idea who they were. Came back and did a search and realized they were the japanese rugby team :D Good luck to them and the UAE team as well!

Hi WaxMuch- thanks for your interest. Agree it is already quite hot, but hopefully 8pm shouldn't be too bad... (At least for us spectators. don't fancy running around at that time myself!) Donations of course gratefully accepted. edited by tiramisu on 12/12/2011

Brava. And cheers for posting this. :) I do feel sorry for the players though; summer may not have hit for 'real' as yet, but it's going to be absolutely stinking out there on the pitch. :\: PS Unable to attend the match but do you know if there is any way that donations can be made? :)
