So DD is nearly 2 months old and sleeps for a 5 hr stretch at night before needing a feed. However, things are different during the day. She will BF for what seems like forever, and will fall asleep on the breast but will wake up as soon as I try and put her down in her crib. She will then either start crying immediately, or will play for 15 minutes and then start fussing. We got her a play gym that she isnt very interested in... doesnt reach out for the toys so maybe she's still too young? She doesn't settle till I pick her up and walk around. As a result, I don't get anything done around th house. Any one with ideas on how to keep them occupied or helping them nap for longer?

I hate to say it but have you considered giving your LO a dummy/pacifier? I was strongly against them, but my second DD would have feed/suckled on me all day long and as a last resort got her a dummy. She initially spat it out but I gently coaxed her to accept it and this solved the problem. You can worry about weaning her off it after a few months. It might be worth a try, just don't want to get involved in the pro/against dummy debate, but you just have to do what works for you and your LO.

Thanks! It took me only 7 hours to write this post in between DD's too short snoozes. You have mail!

Hi Stovetop, I started both of my children on a routine from about 6 weeks old (German husband - we like the structure!). I can email you this if you like, to give you an idea. I follow it loosely these days. My email is twokidsindubai at gmail dot com. I think that the routines are similar to Gina Ford (I'm not familiar with her as I'm an Aussie:). In essence the routine is sleep-feed-play, although my 5 mo DS is a fan of the 'b00b snooze' too! The trick is to make your DD tired enough for a sleep and not a cat nap (yes my son still only sleeps 1 hr in the morning so don't take me as an expert). To keep DD occupied you could go for walk, play together with a rattle or give her a bath. It is perfectly ok not to get anything done around the house, sleep when she sleeps, spend the day in your pjs or on EW (and in your pjs). Trust me I know! DS loves sleeping in the pram, so at least I know that he will enjoy a morning shopping or getting a coffee. HTH:)
