going back to work in a few weeks ....BOOOOOOOOOOO! :(

And am starting to make a stockpile of breast milk...how do u store/label etc your milk in the fridge/freezer...containers etc? any tips?

plus, how do your defrost safely? howlong can u freeze for?

Just FYI I was in Choithrams just now and noticed they had Playtex bags which can also be frozen - they were in the 4oz and 8oz size and were around AED 25-30 for 100 bags so really very inexpensive IMHO. Might be worth taking a look at those? sounds like the best deal...will try those :)

Boots sells their own brand milk bags as well, not sure how much they were...but I remember it was less expensive than Mothercare! They are just as good as Medela ones.

the milk storage bags here cost a fortune! I've bought them via amazon for much less, also CB if you know anyone in the UK you could ask them to send you some over from Tescos... about £5 for 40! I've got a large plastic box to stand up the bags in so they don't get thrown around the freezer when I'm looking for the (ice creams) frozen peas etc

I use Medela bags, you get them at babyshop for AED 84, 20 bags in a box. They have a label there so you can note down the dates as you store them. Easy to store!

You get breast milk bags - which are normally labeled for quantity and have a place to write the date and quantity etc. I've seen the madela ones at Mothercare and Babyshop if I can remember correctly. Bags take up less space in the freezer so are quite handy for storing lots of milk!

Great news on your stockpile! :) Storing safely is important. Always label with the date (I use a permanent marker or sticker labeled with the date) and store on several shelves in my freezer - with the newest stock going to the back pushing the older stock forwards (different shelves hold different month's worth of supply). I defrost mine in a bottle warmer - doesn't take long so I just pop it in there about 30-40 mins before use and it's then ready to go for the feed (each bottle contains one feed). If your frozen bottle contains more than one feed, you don't really want to be heating it all and then re-chilling for another feed. It can be left in the fridge for 24 hrs after removing from the freezer and will start to defrost in there - so you'll be able to decant required amounts into bottles once defrosted from the fridge. For storing, I use the single use bottles (medela - from babyshop etc). Length of time for freezing - depends on your freezer type - side-by-side, top or bottom freezer, chest freezer. Check which one you have and then see JoannaS link :) Hope heading back to work isn't too traumatic for you :(

Hi CB, I pumped into plastic bags, put a date on and put it in the freezer, the 'fresher' milk would be at the back of the freezer, so I would use 1st the milk wich was pumped some time ago.
