haha sorry had to laugh typical 2 yr old ive been there now doing it again and soon to do it again with my 3rd it will pass ...Be strong his testing your boundries and dont give into him like putting him in your bed etc Good Luck you ll need it. Yup same issue with my son. He's nearing 3years old and his speech is coming on well so he can express himself more. Between 2yrs and 3yrs they have a lot of growth with regards to intellectual development. He knows that he is a person is his own right and not an extension of you (which is what he'll have thought as a baby), he is testing boundaries to see what he can and can't do, he is copying things that he sees adult do (sometimes it's horrible seeing how they perceive your actions, like our son sometimes refuses to hug or or anything and says he's "busy" which I know we say to him a lot lately trying to plan a move abroad and juggle him and his baby sister =( ) he'll start to feel emotions that he didn't have before but doesn't have a way to describe them, he'll start to get possessive over his own items and have to learn to share all over again....etc etc.... I'm a trained nursery teacher as well as a mum but trust me...knowing WHY they do things doesn't help with the stress of them actually doing it day in and day out! The things I've found the most helpful are sweets, TV or computer time (I have some children's education games on laptop) as 'rewards' helps a lot. Sweets as a reward was particularly useful for recently toilet training him. Praise is also underestimated! Calling him my superstar and mummies little helper and encouraging him to help me out filling the washing machine, preparing the table for food etc....no sweet just pure praise, smiles and cuddles! Respecting if he doesn't want to be kissed or cuddled because he's feeling very aware of his personal space but asking again 5-10mins later as he may have changed his mind. I also found a book that shows some very basic emotions and read it with him a few times. Then he started to read it himself and can now recognize and express basic emotions like 'cross' 'happy' 'sad' and 'shy'. It's really helped a lot! Also...it's very schoolish...but try to label what he's doing as naughty or not nice rather than calling him naughty directly. Kids confidence is easily knocked. Like I'd say " F***** it's not nice to throw things" or "why is F***** doing naughty things? F***** is a good boy..."

If it happens again, consider a food reaction, to colouring/artificial flavours, preservatives, sweeteners etc, they can be hiding in even seemingly healthy foods.

Yup, DS is the same - just turned 2 and here we are with the protests. Still, can't complain - DD started her "Terrible Twos" at 13 months! Just keep your boundaries clear and stick by them, even when they don't appear to be "getting it". 2 is so difficult because they need the structure, but can't quite deal with this very grown-up concept - they don't just accept it blindly as they did when they were babies, but don't yet have the capacity to understand why certain things are that way. Clear and consistent. Good luck!

In Dutch we have a saying: 'ik ben twee en ik zeg nee', meaning I'm two years old, and I say no to everything... I agree with previous postings, it is a combination of the age, and heaps of energy. You will also find their sleeping pattern will change over time, and the nap will slowly disappear. Also good to know is that around the age of two, they start to understand the concept of property, so they know what's theirs, etc. This means sharing is difficult for them, as it goes against their new understanding (I am me, and this is my stuff, ...) I find going to the pool works well to kick of the energy Still, I'm already struggling with my DS, and he will only turn two in October, so doesn't look promising. Still love him to bits though!

Two's were bad but I find three's worse. They get the attitude. Very promising ... thanks :( sorry :( That being said every kid is different. With mine the attitude also started when he started nursery. I was always told by people that they are so much better after 2... gave me false hope unfortunately.

We are there too. but i kind of figured out a way to minimize the trouble, one word "tiredness". whenever he start testing my patience - which normally isn't too much" i get him in the car and take him to any soft play area, normally in the mornings there are few kids so not much trouble. Sometimes i got him busy with home works, clean the table, collect laundry, move them to washing machine, "I know u'll take forever to finish work but it helps get that weird energy out. Worst cases i give him his scooter, move the furniture and let him go!!!!! anything to make him really tired and take out that energy. very important trick "weekends" : we take him swimming, running at the park, whole day activities "And he rewards us by being fine all week". I wish i did help with the ideas. but obviously we are all there with the terrible two's. "I wonder what will horrible Three bring us!!!!"

So the past week my DS has gone a bit mad.. I had earlier started a thread thinking he was teething, but the grinind of the teeth has stopped.. plus I cant see any redness or feel anything near his molars.. so i am thinking this is not it.. i am not sure.. Since past 2-3days he has become v agressive. He bit my 4month old DD, pinched her belly hard. He is usually difficult to put to bed.. but now it has become almost impossible. He resists sleep so much. I actally have to lie down with him (yes yes i know bad!), and he takes about 20-30mins to fall asleep. But now, its like over 45 mins and its driving me mad. He just twists and turns, and gets up and then rolls down.. i ignore every action and pretend i am asleep, but nothing is working. He is usually quite obedient and loves to help.. now he throws things about. He threw the remote control, the plates (unbreakable thank god!), etc. And when his cousins comes to play with him, if they take anything, he cries and throws a tantrum. Its like he cannot tolerate anyone touching his things. Earlier, he would just take it back or atleast wait till they gave it to him. He sleeps 11 hrs at night.. i make sure he does.. and also nap is 1.5hrs-2hrs a day. So its not like he is lacking sleep. He sleeps thru the night. But still he has dark circles and he looks sleep and behaves like he is exhausted. And we havent been anywhere since last wednesday.. So can it be boredom also? I am lost :( my lovely boy has suddenly become a terror. Any ideas where i am going wrong ladies? I have tired to give as much info as i can.. :(
