DS is almost a year old and i have decided to gradually wean him off. I know it is a slow process and it might take 2-3 months considering his dependence on it! he doesn't take bottle though i have started giving him bottle with a few mils of cow's milk, which sometimes he drinks sometimes he completely refuses, well the struggle is on! He doesn't frink from sippy cup, takes water from a straw and won't drink from it.

I would love if anybody can share tips to wean him off. Any website/book that has helped you? He sleeps from 8:30pm to 7:30 am but gets up once or twice looking for b00b and goes back immediately if i feed him and if i don't and try calming him down he cries and cries until he gets his way..

If he is age 1 or more I would just give cows milk, personally I don't like the idea of giving something with sugar and flavouring added.

I stopped bf by 8 mths, so we used formula to gradually replace feeds. I started dropping day feeds like yourself, but left the 7pm & 7am BF till last. I know it's easier (and quicker like u mention) to Bf in the middle of the night, but we were told it was preventing her from self-settling. And she was relying on mum like a pacifier, to resettle. Especially when bub is on solids and eating enough during the day. So we started giving her formula middle of the night, to take away the comfort feeding. We were told not to give a full bottle, and keep reducing the amount. This worked amazingly quickly, becoming a quick sip and cuddle. Soon gave up night feeds altogether. I think that was the hardest part of giving up BF. I finished with just one Bf each morning. Though definitely needed to separate the feeding and sleeping issue.

Couple questions... Should i substitute BM with cow's milk or pediasure? IF cow's milk, do i need to boil and cool it or can i just heat it to the optimum feeding temperature?

Thanks Flower33! DS is an addict, yes! When he was born we had breastfeeding issues, issues with his latching etc and now we're struggling to wean him off!! I would have continued one or two feeds for another few months if he was taking bottle and sleeping through the night. Thanks a lot for your suggestions, i really appreciate it. I am going to start following it asap and from today onwards i am going to completely stop the day-feeds. I might give in so my goal is to completely wean him off by the time he is 15 months so i will take it slow. Night time feeds will be the hardest :( Nutty, day time i distract him easily.. giving him sippy, or juicy fruits etc, and usually he gives up after a little struggle and he doesn't cry for booby. He doesn't have the habit of napping at breast. Its only in the nights that he gets so stubborn that nothing works. like i said, he gets up once or twice and if i feed him, the whole thing is peaceful and he is back to sleep in 10 mins. But if i don't, then whatever we do he won't go back to sleep, and ultimately i give in, like last night he got up at 2:30 am and i gave in after 2 hrs of struggle. And he was asleep within 15 mins. Thanks for your wishes nutty, i am going need it badly

You said it yourself he cries and cries until he gets his way! There is no doubt that listening to your baby cry is the hardest thing to do but you are teaching him that if he continues to cry then he WILL get his own way eventually. If mumsays no then he must learn that you mean no. Perhaps give him lots of exta cuddles but no booby, a sip of water, stay with him till he goes back to sleep, reassure him more during the day and esp at bedtime. Have dad go through for a few nights but not you then wont be tempted to go for the easy solution (booby) this will only take a few nights atmost a week. Good luck!
