Have been trawlling through the Entertainer and Time Out for somewhere to go with friends tonight, don't wan't anything too fancy ... just a nice relaxed meal, few hop and grape based drinks in a nice setting ... where? We were thinking of going to the Wharf at the Madinat as one option but wondered if there might be some other gem we could try? Prefer not to travel to the Marina or Deira side (we're coming down from The Villa), so that mid bit of Dubai would suit, DH doesn't want a steak (is he ill??) so pasta, mexican, British etc all those and others considered.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Nooooooooo Noooooooo Noooooooooo BBCB, please dont tell everyone about Vista. Its such a chilled place with fab food and lovely drinks, now everyone will know. Grrr..... If I dont get a table tonight I shall be looking for you!! ;-) Is it getting busier now, when I first moved to Dubai I loved at that Holiday Inn so VISTA was my local from home and work! But it was always so quiet. They do a fab special for their roast chicken and veggies!! It is a lovely bar/resturant but take a pashmina if you go, it gets quite cold indoors! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that really made me chuckle - when my DH read it he nearly hit me for letting the cat out of the bag !!!! OOOPPPP SSSS !! sorry .... Its a Rubbish place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL !!

Like the suggestion of BBC and Bidibondi. I was thinking about the mexican place in the Dubai Marine Resort and Spa, Jumeirah Road (where boudoir also is..). It's a very relaxed atmosphere, lots of people. The food might not be the highest quality but is definitely nice (same for BBC and Bidibondi I would say). Loca is the name of the mexican place in Dubai Marine Resort. Fab music, relaxed setting - gorgeous mexican food and yummy margheritas! Couldn't really ask for more ...

I would HIGHLY recommend VISTA in Media City - its next door to the Holiday in Express - the door is to the right hand side - completely seperate from the HI - lift takes you directly to the rooftop - indoor and outdoor areas - shisha - full bar .. Hidden GEM .. its our FAVOURITE place in Dubai .. The Rack of new Zealand lamb on Pea puree is AMAZING ... and so are the fishcakes .. come to mention it we have probably tried everything on the menu.. and it damned fabulous .. they take TO/ City card aswell on Food and Drink .. Happy hour 6-8 and there is a specials menu between that time also .. outside .. after dinner there are these super cool seating areas _ curved booths .. Looks over the palm and atlantis ..

A party of us went to The Wharf last Thursday. Service was dreadful and after complaining we did get a free round of drinks. Have to say my fish and chips was very good as were the steaks, but three of the party had lamb shank and weren't impressed. The whole place reminded me of a mediocore steak house in the UK. Wouldn't recommend it really. I know you say you don't want to go to the Marina, but can recommend Rosso at the Amwaj Rotana on the Walk (vouchers in Fine Dining). Their pasta is superb, as is the risotto, steak, fish, etc. DD went to the Gramacy at DFC last night and said the food was superb and very reasonably priced and a great atmosphere. Trader Vic's at the Madinat is excellent and there are vouchers in the F.D.

Belgian Beer Cafe is great but you would need to book tonight as it's the laughter Factory (comedy club) so it will be mobbed. I'll be there!!

Have you thought of Bidi Bondi on the Palm (Shoreline Apts apprx block 5)? Relaxed pub style, great food and you MIGHT just get away with sitting outside> A great Thursday night (there are food vouchers in The Entertainer)
