Or are planning to fly back for the birth, what age did you bring the baby back ie at how many weeks old and how far in the pregnancy where you when you flew over for the delivery?

It really is a gamble i am trying to get my head round how to organise DH dates for flying back for the birth as he only has a couple of weeks off work, also i need to co ordinate for a member of my family to fly over to dubai at the same time to be there for DD

I am having baby number 3 in early september. The thought of staying here all summer with the other two tots climbing the walls is more than I can take. We're leaving next week at 32.5 weeks although I think most airlines allow you to travel up to 35 weeks. My children will travel back with their dad to start school and nursery mid september and then I can't bear the thought of leaving them longer than two weeks so baby should be about 4 weeks when we travel back to join them. It's all a gamble because I guess if I was to go overdue baby could be much younger and of course they don't induce before 10-14 days overdue in the UK. Wish me luck. DD2 was born here in the june and then I travelled with her at 5.5 weeks. It was fine. She slept or breastfed most of the way and I read a book! No problems with her during or after the flight.

I was hoping to leave it till about 33 weeks and bring back baby at around 6 weeks, reason being is I will have a DD in Dubai and dont want her to be alone too much although DH is very good with domestic stuff...

I flew back at 28 weeks and came back when DS was 3 months old, but that was simply because of timing and circumstance - DS was due at the end of June and so I was never going to return to Dubai in the middle of summer with a newborn and 2 year old to sit in my apartment on my own all day long! I also flew back at 28 weeks because in my 1st pg, I had some swelling and didn't want to risk being refused my fit-to-fly certificate.

If it helps, I had my baby in Dubai and joined DH in Doha when he was 5 weeks old. Left as soon as the passport & paperwork was sorted out. It was only a short flight but I would not hesitate doing a longer flight with a small baby. He didn't even notice anything unusual during the flight or the move. Evidently suffered no ear pressure pain during take off or landing. Could still fall asleep pretty much anywhere at that age, including on mummy. All he wanted was milk and sleep, and he was happy anywhere. Very easy.

i flew home at 32 weeks, and back when my daughter was 3 months, i was going to try and fly back at 2 but had some financial problems, so i had to wait. my DD was awesome,she only cried just a second as we landed from our non-stop16 hr flight. best of luck!
