My friend in Canada had her second transfer this month and it worked. However, she's had some spotting over the past week, had a scan yesterday that showed the sac and yolk sac (if that's right) but no fetal pole and no heartbeat. Her hCG yesterday was 11,000 and today is 9,400. Is this bad news?

Hi, I'm not sure about the hCG count, but I do know about IVF, that's how we had our son. I know the feelings that go along with trying to fall pregnant any which way you can, and when it comes down to it, having IVF is a massive financial burden, especially if it doesn't work out. I suppose what I'm trying to get at, is your friend as worried as she may be, needs to relax and breathe a little. The emotional stress that she's feeling plays a big part in her hormone production. I was implanted with 2 embryos and at 8 weeks pregnancy, lost my son's twin. When I went to the Obstetrician to check if I was still pregnant with our son, the scan was not clear and he asked me to come back in a few days. I was like a woman possessed - I needed to know. The advice he gave me was to go home, and to stop thinking about it; what he meant was that I should focus on something that made me happy and calm. So I went home and started cooking (I love cooking!). And, to be honest with you, that really took my mind off whether I was still pregnant or not, plus it calmed me down alot. Is there anything that your friend is passionate about, that she loves doing? Maybe your friend and her partner/husband can go away together for a romantic weekend? Or maybe she can go visit family out of state? I hope this helps, and I wish your friend the best of luck.

Now they're 13,300 - is this better news?

Her hCG had doubled the first couple of times she did it but she ended up doing it after 24 hours yesterday and today because she was worried she was losing the pregnancy and went to two different clinics :(. She's six weeks now, so I guess it probably isn't good news if no fetal pole was seen. I'm so gutted for her if it's bad news :(.
